Champ188 Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 Only people who blindly back Bass Pro Shops (including BPS employees) would find anything remotely funny about a tournament organization hauling 40 (or so) bass out of one of the country's best bass fisheries and not returning them. The number of fish doesn't matter. It's the principle. You can't very well say that you support conservation of the resource when you trailer fish an hour or more to a weigh-in and don't return them to where they belong. It is a big deal to some of us.
fishinwrench Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 Seems many of my anglers aren't that concerned with the 40 quarantined fish. Yeah there's quite a few immature anglers out there. It's a short lived phase though so exploit it while you can because they grow out of it pretty quick.
willyfish Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 My friend has the best shirt in the world. It says "shut up and fish".

It's funny because your get your panties in a wad, anytime you hear or see someone taking a fish out of the lake, like it's your own private spot. NEWS FLASH CHAMP!!!! it's public waters, if anglers whether recreational or competitive want to keep fish, as long as its legal, what does it matter?
fishinwrench Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 Legal doesn't always mean "right". And it was my understanding that the " anglers" didn't keep any. Though they may have signed their consent (via the entry form) to have any fish they brought in kept by the host of the event. If that is the case then you are correct, nobody has a reason to complain. Not having a legal reason won't stop ME from complaining though, cuz I still think it was a poor choice made just for the chance to win a few bucks. Since you brought up the "legality" of things let's consider that IF the fish weren't released unharmed then anyone who culled a fish that day was stepping on the LEGALITY line pretty hard. Read your culling laws. Can I disregard the laws on culling if I merely give my best 5 fish of the day to my uncle Tom ?

I do fish in some tournaments, not for the prize money( cause your right it's not very much), or for me to brag. i like to fish in tournaments 1. because i'm very competitive, and i like the atmosphere. 2. camaraderie, we all know, fisherman tell tales, its fun to be there and see what the others guys did, learn from them, or learn by them.
Flysmallie Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 Having fun in a tournament has nothing to do with them hanging onto the fish so long. Something that any other tournament director would be arrested for. I've got no respect for the director or the corporation that protects him. If it's not legal for you or I to do them it shouldn't be legal for Johnny Moneybags. Â Â
Fishin Hodge Posted October 11, 2014 Author Posted October 11, 2014 Well it was a fun day. The event was very well ran, and the staff was extremely courteous and helpful. Weighin was very well ran, just everything was done well. Staff even pulled my truck out for me at launch. I believe that 14 lbs won the shindig and last paying spot was to be 10th was 11 something to drawing the last check. Much tougher than many anticipated with the wind and all. It was the polar opposite of my kind of day, give me bluebird, but I did scrape together a small limit, 9.93. I have been getting a good bite shallow early, but I just flat didn't get that done today. If immature is the worst thing I'm called today, and so far it has been, then I think we can all chalk this one up in the win column. When I was a kid I use to love looking at the fish in the Bass Pro aquarium. Who am I kidding I still like to look at them. Everyone of those fish had to come from somewhere, and no matter where that was, someone wouldn't have liked at. Moral of the story, You might as well get them wherever you want. I've stated in the past, of the dozen guides on the Rock on any given day, 40 fish go home with their clients.... Every freaking day. One could say this is a much bigger problem, and I would say the exact definition of exploiting a fishery for money. And you know what, I don't have a problem with it, although it takes a visible toll on the fishery. Heck if I could catch more than 10 pounds I might even be a guide myself. It seems to me some like to jump on one fella and turn there back to some others that more or less do the same thing. i.e. exploit the fishery for money.
Fishin Hodge Posted October 11, 2014 Author Posted October 11, 2014 And again I'll restate I do not have one ounce of ill will toward guides. I'd love to learn a thing or two from Mr. Bill sometime, and may do that someday. Just using guiding as an example of fishing leaving the water for money.
