abkeenan Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Found a really nice 8 pointer two Novembers ago just like that up on the bank. Guess it's that time of year that the males get frisky and do crazy stuff chasing the ladies.
jdmidwest Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 EHD has gotten a few of them again this year. Some friends found a nice one while scouting a month back over in Illinois. It was another dry summer in places. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
*T* Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Note the arrow to the right maybe in one of the hind quarters. Too bad it didnt make someone's freezer. "Water is the driving force of all Nature."Â -Leonardo da Vinci
Members Sodakrep Posted October 27, 2014 Members Posted October 27, 2014 I didn't even see the arrow initially. Hopefully some weird circumstance made the arrow fly there. Maybe it hit a twig, I would hope someone would not purposely shoot an animal in the hind quarters hoping to harvest it.
*T* Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Upon further review, looks like lower part of leg was hit but maybe still a large artery. Or could have fallen out from where ever and just laying there. "Water is the driving force of all Nature."Â -Leonardo da Vinci
Champ188 Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Sadly, I believe the moral decline we're seeing everywhere in society is also affecting sportsman ethics. Not much way to avoid it. I'm not a hunter anymore, although I fully support those who are. The deer herd is healthy and plentiful throughout the Ozarks and without hunting, the animals would overpopulate and die horrible deaths from chronic wasting disease and other illnesses. That said, anyone who would take anything other than a 99% sure kill shot -- archery or otherwise -- is a lowlife who doesn't deserve a hunting license. Kill shots don't land in the hind quarter unless, as mentioned, the arrow happened to be deflected by a limb. And then, was that really the best shot to take? I just have a real problem with anyone who doesn't respect their prey enough to be ethically rock solid about raising their weapon.
merc1997 Bo Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 not all shots hit where they were intended, even gun hunting. i have watched veteran bow hunters miss because the deer jumped the string. i have also watched the arrow hit someplace on the deer than where the shot was intended because the deer jumped the string. i have also been in on tracking a deer that i good hit was made, and the blood trail just vanished. i do not deer hunt myself because i have never had the daylight hours to do it, and they frwon on you using a flashlight. however, my brother is one of the best archers in the country, and he loves archery hunting. as good a shot as he is, things do not always go as planned. bo
Ron Burgundy Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Come on guys I'm sure it was a bad shot probably hit a limb and deflected the arrow! Gone but not forgotten Martin Ford
Fishin Hodge Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 LOL, anyone that has deer hunted for more than 10 minutes has made a bad shot or a bad decision. The hunter may have been 13, it coulda been his first buck, he could have hit a limb, he could have made a bad shot, or he could have made a very poor decision on taking a shot. When hunting, bow hunting in particular, so much can go wrong. Does the shot look like a horrible one? Absolutely. Was the hunter that took it scum? Possibly. Does anyone on here know? No.
