Flysmallie Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 If someone is bent on killing another at a ramp or anywhere not having a gun won't stop them. Neither will having a gun. I thought the guys at Oakley gave you a great reason for their rule. Why can't you just accept that? It's the Facebook era. If you don't like something then just bitch about it constantly so you look like a fool.
Flysmallie Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 It's not a criminal offense to carry at a school in Missouri btw. I don't visit places that have it posted "no guns" unless it's inevitable, ie hospital, and some liberal doctors offices. Again not a criminal offense in Missouri so....... Besides most don't have a regulation sized legal sign anyway. It's illegal to carry at the school my kids are at.

He answered, I thanked him, you and others brought BACK up, so I replied.
5bites Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 It's illegal to carry at the school my kids are at. Illegal and criminal offense are two different things. In Missouri I can only be asked to remove my gun from the premises by whoever is in charge. If I don't an officer can be summoned. He can warn me. Next time is a fine. Then another. Then my license is revoked.

You want to play word games with yourself then feel free. This is straight from the MSHP website. In accordance with Section 571.107 RSMo., you may not carry a concealed weapon in the following places: • any police, sheriff, or Highway Patrol office or station without consent; • within 25 feet of any polling place on Election Day; • adult or juvenile jail or institution; • courthouse or facilities; • any meeting of a government body (except by a member of the governing body with a concealed carry permit); • bar without consent; • airport; • where prohibited by federal law; • schools; • child care facility (without consent of manager); • riverboat gambling facility; • amusement parks; • any church or place of worship without permission of minister or person representing religious organization; • any sports arena or stadium (with seating for more than 5,000); • hospitals; and • private or public property where posted I say illegal, you say criminal offense, whatever. You still can't do it Einstein. Guys like you give responsible CCW permit holders a bad name. I'm sorry that you are so terrified in life that you can't go anywhere without your gun.

A typical response from someone trying to keep their head above water. Next you'll be critiquing my spelling and grammatical errors. I am well aware of the ins and outs of where a person is permitted to carry. It seems you are as guilty of making a big deal over words. If you want to hear it from someone that trains for a living (civilian and military), is an ex-police officer, ex-military, who lives this stuff daily, then I will gladly give you his number. He is also one of the most selfless, brave people I know and carries everywhere daily. He also refers to it as NOT being a criminal offense, because it's not. There is a difference. The bottom line is you are wrong and look worse every time you post. If you don't like what I say about it then you don't like the law and are welcome to ignore me and keep your mouth shut. It's really that easy. This started because I wanted an explanation from Oakley about a rule that doesn't make sense. I don't like it but it's their tournament to run so I won't fish it. I didn't throw a fit or start a petition. I just wanted an answer and I think that's fair. Had everyone else not got bent about gun laws it would have stopped there so thank them and yourself for the direction this topic has went.
5bites Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Also I'm not terrified at all. I do love my family enough to protect them. Evil is real and I choose to be willing to defend against it should it show up where I am. So if that gives ccw carriers a bad name then so be it. Your opinion doesn't dictate that. You'll either get over or you won't.
abkeenan Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Please tell me when I "need" my carry gun that way I'll know to avoid that situation. If you know when you'll need or not need it you either don't get it or you are way wiser than anyone else carrying. It's a ridiculous rule by Oakley and none of their business if I carry or not. If I can't abide by their rules I won't fish it. I'm not going to weigh in s fish knowing I'm breaking a rule and neither should anyone else. The law is ridiculous also. Why on earth would a ccw permit holder not be allowed to carry on a boat ramp? I'm trusted to carry at 99% of other locations but not a ramp? Come on! If someone is bent on killing another at a ramp or anywhere not having a gun won't stop them. Me having a firearm sure puts the odds in my favor though if someone takes a notion to attack me. Man. The OBBT staff member explained WHY they MUST have it this way. It is in State and COE regulations....it is NOT OBBT's rule. They must abide by it in order to put the tournament on. Put it this way, if you caught a fish that was 14" and weighed 5lbs you could NOT weigh that fish in during the tournament because that is a Table Rock Lake and State regulation that they MUST be 15" in length. Oakley may wish the 13" legal length regulation (like other bodies of water in MO) was in effect for their tournament...but they can't because their hands are tied by REGULATIONS and LAW st forth by the authorities of the land. Get it? To your other point about having it vs not having it this is a different situation. People participating in this tournament are more than likely good people as most fisherman seem to be. Better than the general public IMO. Going to Walmart or out in general public places you are more likes to encounter a problem than you are fishing out of a boat and chumming it up at the ramp with people in the same mind frame having, sharing the same passion and a good time doing what we like doing best.....FISHING. I am NOT anti- gun in the least. I have a dozen at home. But I just don't see getting bent out of shape on this issue or bashing the tournament that has NO SAY in this matter and must comply with the accordance of the law. I will end it there as I have said my piece. Agree to disagree. Hope you will change your mind and fish it because it's a great time.
*T* Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 I really didn't mean for it to turn into a crapfest I promise. I was seeking answers and offering feedback. I still don't get why it must be in your rules if all other corps rules aren't but that's your choice. Looks like things may be changing. It's easy to see why. http://www.nraila.org/news-issues/articles/2014/10/corps-regulation-violates-core-right-of-selfdefense.aspx?s=%22Army+Corps+of+Engineers%22&st=&ps= Anyway, thanks for the explanation. 5bites, Thanks for that update from the NRAILA site. I've contacted my representatives regarding corps rule and ccw. Hope that changes nationwide soon. "Water is the driving force of all Nature." -Leonardo da Vinci

I will end it there as I have said my piece. Agree to disagree. Hope you will change your mind and fish it because it's a great time. I appreciate your level headed input. I mean that honestly. Let me explain though: The obbt rules are what they are. I don't agree with it so I won't participate. It's that simple. Now here's the thing this, why aren't ALL other laws listed? Why don't other organizations list it? That's my point. If it's COE law why does it need repeated? I'm choosing not to participate. Nobody has to agree with me but I came in here seeking answers and got them, mostly. Isn't it odd that the most civil conversation happened between me and the one I came to talk to? Only everyone else got butthurt about it and it didn't pertain to them anyway. I asked the dude a question. Whether I like the answer or not shouldn't matter to any of you. Again reread this thread and look at the post order and the times on the posts. I dont like the rule but he respectfully replied and that was good enough for me. There are so many other tournaments to fish it's not even funny so skipping this one like I did last year and will from here on is no biggie. I've fished an absolute boat load of tournaments in the last 12 or so years. I know what they're all about so this one isn't any better than the others I may or may not fish. I know exactly what I may be missing out on. I agree that there are places and situation that are safer than others. Does that mean you will only need or not need a way of defense in only that scenerio? Of course not. It's life. We don't choose what happens to us and we don't see into the future. I carry period. If I'm awake im carrying for the most part. Why should that change because im in a boat? I'm comfortable carrying while fishing and driving my boat. If you are then please don't. Why are you worried about me carrying while fishing anyway? I'm far from bent out of shape with Oakley. I think it's stupid and I disagree with it but that's my take on it. Should I change my ways because some guys on the Internet using a fishing forum don't agree? Or should I do what's best for me? Like I said, Oakley and I have had the most civilized conversation on this topic.
