Members Grumpy53 Posted November 23, 2014 Members Posted November 23, 2014 Where do I have to go to get my boat registered? I live in Olathe Kansas but want to register my boat in Missouri, Barry County to be exact. Step-son has a house in Eagle Rock. I don't get down there during the week to get with a Mo. Water Patrol. I don't know if they have to inspect it or what. The boat and trailer is registered in Mo. I have titles for the boat, trailer, outboard and trolling motor.
Members Clete Posted November 23, 2014 Members Posted November 23, 2014 You need to find out if you or your relation may be responsible for Personal Property here in Missouri.
Members rogerdodger Posted November 23, 2014 Members Posted November 23, 2014 You will need to take your titles and registration info to the closest state license office. You said they are already registered in Mo. If so they usually give give you tag #'s and plates and motor stickers at that time. Mo. Residents must provide personal property tax receipts, being out of state I don't know how that will affect you.
fishinwrench Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Do not register the trolling motor. They will take your money, charge you sales tax, and issue a title in your name.... BUT it is not required anymore. Just a FYI to save you a few bucks here.
gitnby Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 If you are a KS resident, not sure how you can register your boat in MO? Or, really, why you would want to? Although, I guess I understand not wanting that KA in front of your boat numbers? (why does Kansas use KA instead of KS? Just about every other state uses it's proper state abbreviation, ie.. MO, IL, AR, IA, etc)
Old plug Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 A Kansas resident can keep can bring a boat into Missouri. The law used to be a boat did not need to be registered here UNLESS it is kept in the waters of the state for more than 30 days. The law may have changed and it is no longer required. But I have my doubts that if that is still the law that it is not enforced. We have boats permanently dock all over LOZ that carry Kansas and Illinois registrations numbers. You need to call a missouri state license office to find out. That is where you get your registration numbers.
Pepe Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 You can call the license office in Cassville, (417) 847-3471 in Barry County during business hours. Very pleasant and helpful ladies there. They will walk you through the requirements and then you can probably mail payment and whatever else is needed. Barry County does charge Personal Property tax on boat and trailer.
LD Fisher Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 1X^. Very helpful. I just transferred a boat I bought in Ks an it cost around $82 to register and tag it. Taxes are low!
Members Grumpy53 Posted November 25, 2014 Author Members Posted November 25, 2014 Thanks for the fast responses. Fishinwrench--heard it is cheaper in Mo. I will call BARRY COUNTY tomorrow and see what I have to do to get it legal. You folks here are very helpful to everyone who asks questions, however silly they are. I don't ask many questions but I do pay attention, I don't take the good spots off of here. I take the info, throw it in the pot, stir it up and don't catch anything. But I have a heck of a good time. Just getting away from the rat race is all I can ask for. Personal Property Taxes I will be glad to pay. Thanks again for the info guys.
gitnby Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 You didn't mention a slip, but keep in mind, if you leave it in a slip, the boat must be registered to the same person that owns the slip.
