Mofloatjunkie Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Just like my granddaddy said, if it ain't broke don't fix it!
Ham Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 If you lose a fish, so what? Catch another one later. I don't like the RC STX, but plenty of ppl catch fish on them. I have a few 110's, but I will NEVER throw them in a river. Way too easy to break that bill off on a rocky bottom. If they won't eat the other jerkbaits I throw, then I'll have to catch them some other way, Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Seth Posted December 4, 2014 Author Posted December 4, 2014 I pretty well only bass fish rivers, which is another reason I don't throw very expensive baits. Treble hooked baits usually don't make it more than a few trips before they get snagged and broke off it seems. My buddy snagged up and had to break off a 110 the other and It just about me sick to my stomach! He uses GLX or Steez rods paired up with Quantum exos so money isn't much of an issue to him though.

So far I've only lost one of my Megabass, and it made me sick as well....I started out using the RC's and they worked fine, the hooks are cheaper, but I haven't had a problem yet. After I tried the 110 and some pointers I leave them in the box usually now. I really like my 110 Jr I got pictured up the thread, might consider another one when my loan clears... There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
Ham Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 It's silly I guess, but I hate that they call it a 110 Jr. The 110 = 110 mm. The 110 Jr is roughly 95 mm. What about calling Vision 95? Nah gotta cash in on name recognition of the 110? FWIW, there is a smaller McStik. McStik's another another Megabass knockoff. They catch fish and are more durable than the Megabass Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Seth Posted December 4, 2014 Author Posted December 4, 2014 All this jerkbait talk has me fired up for some fishing this weekend! Gonna hit the osage for some spots and largemouth this Saturday with some buddies.
Al Agnew Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 I'm really big in the "if it ain't broke" camp. Mitch and I fished today. Water temps from 38 at 9:30 AM up to 41.5 early in the afternoon. Water extremely clear, from 7 to 10 feet visibility. We caught quite a few fish on hair jigs and Mitch's crawdad, but jerkbaits were probably our best lure. I stuck with the Pointer 78, clown color modified by spray painting the back a dull green, for much of the day. Mitch stuck with the Megabass all day. Later in the afternoon I watched a couple of nice smallies look mine over without taking it, while Mitch was catching a couple at the same time. Up until that time we'd both caught about equal numbers of fish on jerkbaits...I may have caught a few more than he had but I was doing a lot of front-ending him as I was running the trolling motor. So after those two refused it, I switched to a duller color and the deeper diving version of the Pointer, and immediately started catching fish again. Under those conditions...water cold enough that you had to let the lure sit still for a long time before they'd take it, and so clear they could sit there and read the fine print on the lure and tell you not only what pound test line you were using but the brand name as well, I think it was pretty telling that it basically didn't matter which jerkbait we were throwing. As far as I'm concerned, as long as they suspend well, swim well, and zig zag well under the right kind of twitches, the brand doesn't matter. I know how the Pointers work, how deep they go, and how they suspend, so I'm perfectly comfortable with them under any conditions I encounter. By the way, the fishing WAS kinda tough...didn't find any big ones, but caught probably close to 40 fish between the two of us, with the vast majority being in the 12-14 inch range. And caught more fish over sand drop-offs than we did in the rocks. We were parked up against a gravel bar at one point, watching fish cruise very slowly past us just off a sand drop-off with lots of dead leaves at the bottom of the drop-off, zero cover, fish were in plain sight. About every tenth cast or so one would decide to take a jerkbait, and if we casted out a bit farther with a jig we'd catch one now and then as well. There were a lot of fish in that spot.
LittleRedFisherman Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Great Report Al. I"m planning on trying something similar on the Current River soon! There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!

They catch fish and are more durable than the Megabass Ham, the Spro McStick isn't a knockoff. They are their own baits, quality ones at that. You mention the Vision 95, there is one, likely Japanese market predominantly. Andy
