Ham Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Hey Drew, I could swear I saw an interview where McClleland says that he wanted to make a bait like the 110. Basically his take on the 110. Spro has a lot more original lure design than Lucky Strike does and more than Strike King for that matter. I still think it's dumb to make a Jr version of a specific length. Is a 12 inch ruler a Jr yardstick? Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
fishinwrench Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 Well hey, everyone fell so hard for the marketing on the darn thing, who can blame them.
Gavin Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 Lots of jerk baits mentioned. They are all a tad different. Have several and know how to adjust one.
fishinwrench Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 Everyone knows how to "tune" a crank/jerkbait to make it track straight, but few seem to know that you can tune the action also by bending the nose ring up/down. Up makes a tighter wiggle that wanders more. Down makes a wider harder wiggle with more side to side roll and more exaggerated reaction to gentle pulls.
Gavin Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 guessing you like down fw? Floating raps can do many things! Dad used to take a drill and weight them. Worked well.
fishinwrench Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 Yeah I like to feel a firm thu-thump on a fairly slow and short pull. Never had much luck on jerkbaits that feel like a soggy stick on the end of my line. If I give it a twitch and it doesn't kick back at me right away I set the hook, cuz it has either picked up a piece of leaf/grass or it's in a fishes mouth.
Seth Posted December 7, 2014 Author Posted December 7, 2014 Caught a bunch of dink kentuckies and largemouth on the Osage today. An 18" walleye decided he couldn't resist my jerkbait either. He will make a tasty meal tomorrow. We threw herringbone chartreuse and pro blue colors. Pro blue never produced a fish but they liked the herringbone chartreuse color. I switched from my skeet reese crankbait rod to my spinnerbait/worm rod, which is a medium/fast, and decided I like it much better for jerkbaiting. It didnt wear me out nearly as bad. The only thing I wish is that it was a 6'6" instead of a 7'. I hit the boat and water every now and then if I wasn't paying attention to my jerk angle. I'm right at 6' tall.
fishinwrench Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Any sign of Whites/hybrids ? We (Lake O) didn't give you any water today so I'd say you did darn good for the falling out conditions.
Seth Posted December 7, 2014 Author Posted December 7, 2014 Caught four whites between island and dam but the paddlefish were so thick, you couldnt hardly throw a crankbait without snagging one.
fishinwrench Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Oh,you were up high. For some reason I assumed you were down below Tavern.
