Found a pretty good "Ned" bite back in the coves, mainly around secondary point structure. Mostly largemouth back in the coves, and good average size, 14-16" fish. Most were fairly shallow, 3-10 FOW. Cloud cover seemed to have really helped the bite.

Tried a jerk bait for a few minutes, no bites. What sold me on the Ned was I came back to a point I had fished the jerk bait on without a bite, threw the Ned on that point and caught 3 bass.

Caught some fish out on main lake points, those tended to be K's. Did also get a couple of 12" smallies, and a keeper meanmouth that ate a jig in 30 FOW.

Got 15 bass into the boat and probably had an equal amount that managed to get off before making the boat.

Water temp 49-50.

Nice job! Also goes to show how clouds are most definitely helping a shallower bite. You also learned something valuable about not assuming that there are not fish where you are fishing because of not getting a bite. You just proved that a lot of times the bass are there, but we just have not put the right lure and presentation in front of them.

That is a really nice mean mouth.

To expand on Bo's point, I have also learned that there are definite "looking up" days and "looking down" days. Rarely do Donna and I experience a day when we catch them good on both winding and dragging baits. If I start catching them on a spinner bait, jerk bait, topwater or any other bait that is worked up off the bottom, then she isn't likely to have a good jig day and usually ends up joining the "winders association" before long. That's a "looking up" day. Essentially, they're feeding up off the bottom.

However, if the fish don't respond to my winding baits but are chewing on her jig, it's probably a "looking down" day and I'll end up going to a shaky head, Ned rig or a jig. For the day, I'm granted an honorary membership in the "draggers association."
Just don't be too quick to presume that "looking up" days are always cloudy and dark. That's not always the case. I've had some very good "looking down" bites on overcast days when you'd swear they'd hammer a spinner bait or topwater. I've also had some pretty good "looking up" bites on bright days, so long as there was some wind.

Them eating in the coves/creeks shallow is good news. No wart bite?

I didn't try the Wart, I thought about it later in the morning when the wind kicked up a bit, but I have a lot of fun catching bass on the Ned rig with light spinning tackle. Hard to put it down when they are biting it.
