huntest Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Thank you for the heads up on W.F. Cody's. We will plan to give it a try. We enjoying trying recommended places for burgers, pizza, and bbq. On the subject of bbq, I was always disappointed in my own bbq so I went to 3 classes put on by Chris Marks, an 8 time Amercian Royal Grand Champion. I learned a lot. http://three-little-pigs-bbq.com/tag/chris-marks-bbq/ . Then I went to anothert class and became a Certified Kansas City BBQ Society Judge. Learning from BBQ Pros is a lot like hiring a proven guide to show you some Table Rock fishing skills. There a number of places around the country that serve great bbq. The key is to find the spots that serve competition quality product all the time. One place that is not too far away that is worth a small detour when you travel east is Mike Mill's place in Murphysboro, IL. He was four-time World Champion and three-time Grand World Champion. http://www.17thstreetbarbecue.com/Menu.aspx They cook over apple wood and the sauce is a mustard based solution of greatness. Another outstanding place that is in Kansas City atJoe's Kansas City...formerly known as Oklahoma Joes. They have competition quality product and I specifically recommend The Z Man Sandwich which is bbq brisket covered with smoke provolone cheese and onion rings http://www.joeskc.com/ BBQ crawls make for a fun add on to a trip. Champ188 Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Good grief, guys ... cut it out! You're killin me.
dtrs5kprs Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Good grief, guys ... cut it out! You're killin me. Mmmm...Wyandotte BBQ, Bryant's, are just 15 minutes from home. Half an hour to Gates, Zarda, Jack Stack, Joe's, many others. Course you boys have the lake that close.
Champ188 Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 If you guys are ever in Hot Springs, you need to visit McClard's BBQ on Albert Pike. It's been a local favorite of many for 60-70 years, including President Clinton. Of course, he's vegan now so those days are over for him.
Members derekburleson Posted December 23, 2014 Members Posted December 23, 2014 Lockhart, TX. You can make 3 stops and have some of the best bbq in the world. Then drive an hour to the Shiner brewery, take the tour and have a few samples. Or vice versa. A good friend lives in Austin and got to know the area because it was his sales territory. He chauffeured us around a couple of years ago. Great time. Champ188 1

I know, tamales. They are huge homemade versions piled high with chopped BBQ, onions, beans, BBQ sauce, cheese and Fritos. Not once in all my years in Hot Springs did I ever try anything on the menu, because I had the spread on my first visit. lol Donna Gilzow Bella Vista, Arkansas The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope. --John Buchan, 1915

Champ188 Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 I don't think it was farm animals that Hillary cut him off from. Well, wait ... he wasn't exactly choosy, was he?

bobby b. Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 I live in KC half the week and TR the other half. Agreed, Byrants on Brooklyn is the best. There is another Byrant's at the Legends near Cabelas - not near the same, as someone said above, it's those old brick ovens. I pass on the frys though as I once saw them drop a big block of white stuff into the fryer (trans fat??????). For those that have never been there, go during the day - this is not a safe part of town in the evening.
