dtrs5kprs Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 Should add the Mustad does not fit a regular jig mold without some work due to the eye length. Not a big deal, but does have to be addressed.
Champ188 Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 Dave, agree on the Mustads after trying both. Plenty sharp, very durable. Lot to be said for the latter, especially when fun fishing.
Ham Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 The sickle cost me a black that would have been over 7# in 2012. Had high hopes for it. Think it has too much flex, and don't think the turned down point helps either. Something is especially wrong with the #2 size. . I love the sickle hook in some of the other sizes. 1/0, 2/0, and 3/0 depending on size of grub have been very, very good to me. In the #2, the gap seems small and the barb is almost non existent. I've had a number of mystery "get offs" that chaff a bit, but you still catch plenty thru the day. The 32833 ain't bad In a #1 if you accidentally order the wrong size either. Just saying. Won't take the #2.
Ham Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 That has to be a pretty big gap in the #1.[/quote You say that like its a bad thing. The biggest problem I have is that the hook shank is longer and it makes threading the worm on straight more difficult. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
motoman Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 Then tackle warehouse must not be stocking them. Insert sad face here. Did not see it on the zman site, but must have missed it. Bloodworm looks good as well. Think the Canada craw may work in place of the green pumpkin orange. That color is great, but you need to buy it in person to make sure you don't get a bag that is mostly orange. - Our local bps has the canada craw zinkerz in stock. Grabbed some this morning. Hadn't even read this thread yet, but know the virtues of the ole new money color and saw canada craw and pounced........I actually saw the TRD in Canada craw first; then did the math with bait count in the TRD bag vs the zinkerz. Like you said, better buy in the zinkerz since we snip them in half. Glad they had them in the zinkerz; the higher salt content is much preferred over similar baits with less salt in the zman line. - I saw you mention bloodworm (I agree, looks promising); is it available in the zinkerz? (I'm not seeing it online)
dtrs5kprs Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 The long shank on bigger hooks is a definite problem. All hook, no tail.
glennL Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 isn't the attraction of the ned rig the fact there is no action? Glenn
Ham Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 The #1's are a disappearing bunch; it will be back to #2's after that. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
dtrs5kprs Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 isn't the attraction of the ned rig the fact there is no action? Sort of. There is a big difference between "do-nothing" action and an overpowered bait. Ham 1
