Bill Babler Posted January 16, 2015 Author Posted January 16, 2015 Doc, we fished with the Wizard of Oz. on Captiva. Bill Beck has fished with Ozzie over 20 times in the past 10 years. Extremely nice guy. Nice equipment. As you know I'm a gear horse. We used Shimano Stella 8000's and Shimano 8' rods. We caught Gag Grouper, Red Grouper, Red Snapper, and I caught a 150 pound spinner shark. Would have rather not caught the shark. Just to much battle. Took me about 35 minutes and it was a complete load. Beck caught a 20 pound Gag and Ozzie said it was his biggest in 25 yrs. on the water in the gulf. Pretty special trip. We went 20 miles offshore, and fished rock reefs and ledges. 60 pound braid with a 40 pound invesx 4' leader. Only problem was getting in and off the island, took us roughly 2 hrs. each way to go 18 miles from ft. myers going and coming. Ozzie is a great guy and is one of the best tournament fishermen on the salt in the gulf. He is a very good guide and treated us very well. Enjoyed him, but the best deal of the trip was being able to spend the day on the salt with my buddy Bill Beck. Champ188 1 http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
J-Doc Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Awesome. I got his name through Peter Miller (Bass2Billfish host) and he was great. I felt bad for him. He was getting very angry when the tarpon would not bite. Lots of pressure on a guide to put folks on big tarpon. They were all around burping and surfacing but wouldn't take the live crab. Then I felt a bite and then the reel started singing suprano. He put us on some quality redfish later as well and my 13yr old caught the biggest red about 30". That was his biggest fish to date and he did it all by himself. Best way to describe redfish to those that don't know....it's like hooking up on a team of smallmouth bass harnessed together like a stage coach. You're just along for the ride. Lol! Okay. sorry for the total derail but I love hearing when people know where Captivag is....much less fishing it. And with Ozzie!! That's awesome. Chris King Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 REALTOR® stretching the truth -- making a home sound better that it is? Shocking!!! We have a condo on Indian Point that has been on the market for a year, maybe I need to add crappie hot spot to the listing! Â
rps Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Lol!! Sorry but the way you put it was funny. It's true. Realtors will tell you anything to sell property. Poor people don't know any better but, if they didn't do Amy research on the lake itself, shame on them. If they were THAT determined to catch said fish, they should have researched it themselves. Never trust a used car salesman (sorry if any of you are one) Never trust an attorney Never trust a sales pitch if any kind Never trust a fart It's that simple. :-) Jdoc You hurt my feelings.
dtrs5kprs Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Did your feelings grow back after you retired? J-Doc 1
gitnby Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 One of my buddy's told me the 3 things to never do when you turn 60 Never pass a restroom. Never turn down $E--yum yum Never trust what you said of the stinkum. I'm throwing in the Realtor deal. for a 4th. and never miss an opportunity to take a nice nap!

Champ188 Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Trying to comprehend how much fishing knowledge was in that one bay boat ... The Bills + Mr. Ozzie = A Whole Darn Bunch. Glad you two old buds got to spend a day out on the big salty pond being treated by someone else. Good stuff and sweet memories.
Bill Babler Posted January 16, 2015 Author Posted January 16, 2015 I put 1/2 dozen baits on all day and took off a total of 4 fish. Oz. said he very seldom lets clients either bait or take anything off the line. We fished with his tournament gear as he and Bill are pretty tight after all these years. To tell the truth I wanted to stay in the bay and catch Red Fish and Trout, but Ozzie, Bill and Kent another one of our friends wanted to catch Grouper so offshore we went. Ozzie said the Reds and the trout were petty small this time of the year around Captiva and really that would have suited me fine. Not in for the gut wrenching. WE were over at Stuart and Jupiter for a couple of days and they were really catching some nice trout on the Atlantic side up a couple of different brackish rivers. Would really have loved to have done some of that, but time restraints. I liked the Stuart area the best over all. Lots of views. It is pretty hard on the Gulf side to see the water no roads much along the coast with much of a view. IF you are a golfer however it is the place of your dreams. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
