ness Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 By law, you're entitled to a free credit report from each of the big three vendors once a year. Google free credit report and look for the government sources. All the companies offering free credit reports are doing it to get their hooks in you for something else. If you've got a Discover card you can get your credit score anytime on their website. fishinwrench 1 John

Yep, the first thing Credit Karma will yell you as soon as you register with them is that you need MORE CREDIT CARDS, and includes links to get them. (they truly do think people as a whole are friggin stupid). Good to know about Discover. That was news to me. Giving you only your "score" though doesn't help you much without details of all of the scoring factors (including contact info for each, and transaction reference numbers).
Lancer09 Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Something my accounting teacher taught us. they want you to have some balance without going overboard. they dont make money on interest if you pay your loan off super early. what she told us was to go to a bank. Get a small loan. put money in the freezer. use that money you borrowed to make the payments. the little you pay in interest will be worth it in the long run to increase your score and set your self up in the future.
fishinwrench Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Pshyeah Ha!! Money in my freezer would turn into fishing gear at about 34 degrees shaker 1
jdmidwest Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 One other thing that hurts a score is someone running credit checks. Shopping for insurance results in multiple hits. Cell phone companies run them too. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
rainbow Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 When I got my report on Credit Karma the credit check button said it had a low impact on the score. They didn't offer me anything. We have had the same banks, insurance and credit cards for years so only had two credit inquiries in the last two years. I guess paying your bills on time is a good thing.
