Members Fly Fishing Pete Posted January 17, 2015 Members Posted January 17, 2015 Drifted a jig late this afternoon just above Fall Creek and caught this big guy (gal?)! Never seen a trout possess such amazingly sucker-like characteristics. Phil Lilley 1
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 17, 2015 Root Admin Posted January 17, 2015 Looks like over 20 inches... hope you kept it. Fly Fishing Pete 1
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 i see that around Halloween usually.... How big was that thing? looks massive. Nothing really to reference it to... I always thought a sucker taste way better than a trout Seth 1
grizzly Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Huge sucker and gongrats! We should call these "Ozark Whitefish" as they look like whitefish to me. My biggest was 15 inches on Capps, but I deem yours the "eclipse" in honor of its size.
Members Fly Fishing Pete Posted January 18, 2015 Author Members Posted January 18, 2015 I had never seen one nearly that size, thought it was a carp at first! When I got home I looked online and found out I may have caught a near state record size sucker...
Ham Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Nice fish man. I like catching them as much as I do trout. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 18, 2015 Root Admin Posted January 18, 2015 There was a gigging boat out last night... they probably gigged a bunch of them.
crappie_adams83 Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Yea I saw them last night as well if every body had a pole and a fish on the line there would never be a war
Seth Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 I need to come down and gig Taneycomo one of these days. If you guys like fried fish, it is hard to beat a fresh sucker! Scale, filet, rib, score the fillet as thin as you can, roll in corn meal and fry for 6-7 minutes at 350 so it get's good and crispy and dig in! The biggest white sucker I've caught down there was 18 inches if I remember right. It was a long time ago. I would walk around Lazy Valleys dock sight fishing for them and have a ball!
