fished a derby at the dam today. water temp 36 to 39 throwed an arig, jerk bait, wart, rock crawler and a tube to no avail. if i'd had crappie gear in the boat i'd switched to them. we marked crappie everywhere and see two fellas fish off a short bluff on the pomme side with two nice messes of slabs. every place we stopped there were dead/dying shad. the wind got up so much we throwed in the towel and 2:15 loaded up and came home. several had the same idea we did and no one seemed to be able to get on fish, seen quite a bit of ice back in the coves too.

  1. We also fished the tourney, only caught one dink. There were only 15 or so trailers at the ramp when we left @ 3:00, as of that time not one person had weighed fish yet. Would be interesting to know how many #s won it. VERY tough day!

18.24 ended up winning it with 14+ taking second. Only 6 of the boats weighed in fish. I had the 5 fish limit for 18.24. We fished hard all day and only ended up with 6 bites, granted they were the right ones

I will not fish for bass in areas where I can see a widespread shad die off. I head elsewhere. Generally, I had for shallower more off color water. Maybe, that's just me.

All of my fish came on an a-rig. Graphed single bass under balls of shad and had to drag the bottom to get bit. They did not want to chase at all. Caught no short fish. Smallest was 3# and biggest was 4.62. If you find fish right now, don't leave. Every fish came in a 30 yard stretch I fished all tournament
