rFisherk Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 If you don't think Rep. Spencer (HJR27 and JR28) is trying to gut the Department of Conservation in retribution for captive deer industry, check out this link of his statement republished by the American Cervid Alliance. Talk about political spin! The claims in his statement are outrageous. If you will remember, a bill to reclassify captive deer as livestock (which could potentially be devastating to the entire wild herd) was passed some months ago, then vetoed by the Governor, and narrowly escaped an override vote. Now the same bill is back, along with many other measures that clearly constitute an effort by a few representative to destroy most of the MDC programs people like you and I appreciate. http://www.americancervidalliance.org/news.cfm?id=161 We need to stand together as a unified voice to combat the multi-pronged and vindictive attack on the MDC, and the best way to do that is to join and support the independent citizen's group, the Conservation Federation of Missouri. http://confedmo.org/
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted February 3, 2015 Root Admin Posted February 3, 2015 There is an unproven test that the MDC uses, taken from a rectal sampling. MDC has deemed it as an appropriate test for themselves, but the test is not a valid test for the captive cervid farmers. I'd like to hear more about this from MDC. The deer farmer’s livestock has to maintain a CWD free status and are CWD free rated by the state and individual farm. I understand that at least 2 deer tested positive on a farm just last week. I'd like to hear about this further. Is MDC bringing in diseases by elk introduction that may hurt the deer population in Missouri? Are the MDC blaming the cervid farmers for the MDC actions or what can accrue naturally? So far, the answer appears to be unknown. If Spencer, the author of some of these bills, still isn't sure of his facts, then why is he pursuing MDC and sticking up for the deer farms? Reminds me of didymo and felt free boots. If there's ANY question of the spread of disease, then why take the chance?
ness Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 If Spencer, the author of some of these bills, still isn't sure of his facts, then why is he pursuing MDC and sticking up for the deer farms? That was the main thing I took away from the article. He tosses a lot of stuff out there without backing it up much. John
jdmidwest Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 The latest 2 cases of CWD was found in wild free range deer. http://mdc.mo.gov/newsroom/mdc-reports-two-new-cases-cwd-found-adair-and-macon-counties "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Chief Grey Bear Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Yep. And all free range deer that have tested positive have all came from the three counties that have deer farms that are contaminated with CWD. No surprises there. This is playing with fire that could go ragingly wild. Chief Grey Bear 1

Al Agnew Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I love it the way he throws in the elk thing, asking if MDC is bringing in diseased elk, and trying to link the Macon County CWC problem with those elk without actually saying so...knowing full well that uninformed people may take that inference, and knowing full well that Peck Ranch is about 300 miles from Macon County. This is a smear campaign filled with distortions with a few out and out lies thrown in. It sickens me. ness and Seth 2
