LittleRedFisherman Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 I've only went once this winter fishing for strictly walleye with no luck, but plan on making time next week with a neighbor who can catch some. Jigging grubs and bottom fishing minnows are the game plan. The elusiveness of this fish interests me and love the challenge of hopefully catching one! Anybody been on any walleye yet? The next month is when there pursued here on the current usually! There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!

Al Agnew Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 All the old time walleye anglers STOPPED fishing for them before the end of February on the Current and Black. Sometime in mid to late February, they apparently leave their wintering pools and scatter out toward spawning areas, becoming difficult to find. I know that when I fished for them a lot, I'd never catch much of anything after Feb. 15 in the big wintering pools. The Black/Current strain may be early spawners, or may just have too many places to move to in order to spawn. I believe when MDC was capturing spawning ready females and males to raise them to stock the St. Francis and Eleven Point, they hit the area below Clearwater Dam in early March and got fish that were either spawning or ready to spawn.. Walleye coming up out of the lakes like Bull Shoals and Stockton seem to move a little later. I'll be interested to hear a report from LRF on how he did and more importantly, what kind of water he fished.
mjk86 Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Ill tell you bout 10-20 techniques that do NOT work. The only river ive tried for them ever was the meremac around st louis.....zero luck, yet i still try like a schmuck. Maybe one day. Good luck to ya though!! and after that go to stockton....

There are five spots from route 66 park to hwy 30 bridge that hold Walleye all year round but, very soon they will be very good. I fish these five spots pretty much and know them very well. The Walleye will move in and out of these areas so it is important to either stay there and wait for the fish or just get lucky and pull up when they are feeding. Because this is an online forum I will not devuldge these spots but, if you were to pm me and I got to know you a little and we built up a trust I would be very happy to tell you very specific areas to go nail some eyes.
405z06 Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 I've never caught a river walleye in Missouri, but every February I head down to Morse Mill on the Big to see if I can get lucky. I recall reading somewhere that they are sometimes caught on the mill dams on the Big in Feb. It's looking like 60 degrees for Sat and Sun, so I may make my yearly journey this weekend. If I snag something, I'll report back
