Members carpelpummel Posted February 5, 2015 Members Posted February 5, 2015 Hi guys n gals, was looking for a new jerkbait Rod and came on what seemed to be pretty decent deal on a Cashion...just can't find a ton out about them online except for pricing and specs. Seems like it'll do the job, 7ft med w/ fast tip. Just curious if anyone has any knowledge on them or used them by chance if I should hang onto it or dump it? Thanks in advance!
Champ188 Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Hey carpel, I just wonder if 7-0 isn't going to be a bit long for a jerkbait rod. You really need to work a jerkbait with your rod pointed at the water, and even at 6-foot-4, I don't believe I could manage that with a 7-footer. I use a 6-6 medium power/fast action --- I actually have two ... a Duckett Micro Magic and a Shimano Compre. If you want to go top-of-the-line, the Falcon Cara McClelland Series jerkbait rod is as good as it gets. Length on it is 6-8. Price is right at $250. The 6-6 med/fast Duckett rod that I spoke of earlier will run you about $150 and is a very fine rod in my opinion. Hope this helps.
Members carpelpummel Posted February 5, 2015 Author Members Posted February 5, 2015 Thanks Champ, I might just have to toy around with it a bit and see how it feels....hopefully sooner than later.
dtrs5kprs Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 The Cashions have neat grips. Don't have a clue beyond that. Champ provided some sound advice on length. I often use a 6' rod for sticks, spooks, etc., because of height and arm length. I also like a lower modulus blank.
96 CHAMP Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 champ, i bought the mike mcclellan signature rod 2 years ago and paired it with lews tournament pro and it is one heck of a combo, the feel and action of that rod is awesome, i love my wife, i also love that rod!! Champ188 1
nomolites Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I have a 6'8 Falcon Cara T7 MF with a Revo SX that is perfectly balanced for the job. I agree with Champ that 7" is a bit much unless your boat rides real high in the water. Mike
Members carpelpummel Posted February 6, 2015 Author Members Posted February 6, 2015 Appreciate it everyone, boat does ride high, usually in a triton ski fish but thinking I should probably just take it back and go with something that's a bit more tried and true instead on gambling on something new. If anybody wants it it will most likely find its way back to the basspro outlet tomorrow. Was $90, retail $200. Thanks for all of the input and constant great entertainment and helpful insight on this forum. Champ188 1
dtrs5kprs Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Don't be drastic. It might be a nice redfin rod. Or a crankbait rod. For that price it has to be worth keeping.
Sac River Jim Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Cashion is a fine rod I got a friend at Kimberling City on their pro staff if I wouldnt have invested a lot of money on Lew's this last year I'd considered Cashion very seriously but I agree with Champ 7' atleast for me is a bit too long.
abkeenan Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I actually prefer a 7 foot rod for jerkbaits but I am unconventional. I don't jerk or snap straight down, I jerk to the side and have no issues with a 7 foot rod. I feel like I have better feel with the 7 footer, take up line faster and it also allows me to get better casting distance than on a shorter rod. With jerkbaits casting distance is key to covering area as well as possible. It works for me but I am in the minority of using rods over 6"6 for jerking. I will 2nd Champs opinions. I have a Duckett Ghost rod which I like very much so the Macro, Micro or White Ice series would be great choices. Super light, sensitive and have nice tapers to them. Also have a Shimano Compre which is a nice rod and would be a good fit as well. I am starting to get away from Shimano just for the simple fact that they did away with their Lifetime Warranty on all their rods. That was a big selling point for me. Nice rods still....but not as nice without that safety net of a warranty.
