I've got some soft plastic Mad Toms. They catch less fish, but they are bigger fish that eat it. A 3 inch beaver would fish the same.

Just read a story last night in National Geographic about small fish in streams. It said that J. R. Shute and Pat Rakes, ichthyologist, formed the Conservation Fisheries, Inc to help study, preserve and propagate about 65 rare species of small fish in creeks and rivers. It said the last chucky madtom, in the ark, died in 2008, and have not seen one in the wild but hope there is still one out there but it is not looking good. So you guys might look them up and let them know there are still some out there and let them know where you found them.

Never mind, I just looked up madtom and there are 29 different kinds and the chucky madtom is or was only found in two stream in eastern Tenn. Didn't know there were so many of them. Not sure if I had ever seen a madtom. If I had I just thought it was a small catfish.

Man, they shouldn't have said " Hi, I'm Chucky. Wanna play?" so often. Poor little guys.

my parents still own that property so when it warms up a bit in spring ill have to go back to the small riffles i found them in and see if there's any still around. And while we are on madtoms does anyone know of a decent soft plastic madtom to buy?

Jewel Lures marketed a soft plastic sculpin that would work. Case Lures had a Mad Tom. Poor Boy Lures has a hand pour Goby that would work. I think any of the various soft plastic beavers would work just fine. You only need to match the profile and the movement on or near bottom.

there used to be some sold at walmart that had a matching jig head i'm trying to remember the company....i wanted to say it was lindy's but i could be wrong. I just found some made by winco lures called the stone cat system and they look good. Thanks for the suggestions Ham!

Also Venom lures makes a 3 inch Mad Tom. It looks like most of the Case Lures stuff in now Ebay only. I have several bags that I would part with. Hint HInt.
