ness Posted April 6, 2015 Author Posted April 6, 2015 I had to run an errand in old Overland Park over the weekend, so I decided to wander into Penzey's and look around. When you walk in you're hit with that great smell, like a giant spice cabinet. They've got their stuff arranged on a series of stand-alone shelves, with like spices (say, 'chili powders' or 'curries') grouped together. Each product has an open container that you can stick your nose in, so I sniffed my way through a few dozen herbs and spices to the back of the store. By the time I got there, I was sick to my stomach. Too much of a good thing, you know. I had to get out into the fresh air -- quick like -- so I made a bee line to the door and left without buying anything. It only took me a couple minutes to recuperate once outside, but it was a close call. Penzy's almost made my 'I won't ever do that again' list, along with Southern Comfort, Yukon Jack, Golden Corral and Bloomin' Onions. John
rps Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Tonight I picked up a rotisserie chicken. I stripped the breast off and diced it. Then I made a peanut sauce that included large amounts of fresh ginger and garlic, sesame oil, rice vinegar, sriracha, soy sauce, and peanut butter. I thinned it a bit with water and lime juice. I will use the sauce to coat cooked and chilled soma noodles and drizzle over the chicken, cucumber, carrot, sweet pepper, mushroom, and green onion I will stack on the noodles. Under the noodles I will have fresh leaves. On top of everything, I will garnish with chopped roasted peanuts. The man is insane! Is there no end to the flavors? Picture coming later.

There is some cat there with a huge amount of spices. On the west side. You can buy it by the scoop. Holy Cow I should have cleaned house there but, I restrained. Holy Cow I should have cleaned house there but, I restrained. I know where you're talking about. Smells great right around there. Those middle-eastern vendors in that area of the market have some pretty interesting stuff too. For pure, mouthwatering fire and meat smells, there's that dude cooking sausages on the north edge too. Here is tonight: IMG_0544.jpg Looking good! Store bought or garden lettuce? John
rps Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Store bought lettuce. I don't garden beyond a few herbs on the porch.
Terrierman Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Store bought lettuce. I don't garden beyond a few herbs on the porch. No wonder. You're too busy cooking! That chicken dish sounds real good, plus it looks very nice the way you have it plated. I'd have added cilantro too. Love that stuff.
Feathers and Fins Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 This was Easters Dinner, I posted it in the Beaver Lake forum but thought I would fire it off here also. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
