Members westbranchfly Posted February 16, 2015 Members Posted February 16, 2015 I was wondering if anyone had ever fly fished for stripers on any of the local water?
rFisherk Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 I used to fish the white bass/whiper/striper runs up in the North Fork, just above Norfork Lake. Hooked a dozen or so stripers over 20 pounds on a 10-weight Sage. Landed two. I waded. You really have to be in a boat to go after them when they turn sideways to the current and head downstream, which they always do. Uncontrollable. Lost fly lines and backings. Plastic_worm and Ham 2
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted February 16, 2015 Root Admin Posted February 16, 2015 I bet one could throw a fly off the bank at Beaver Lake with Scott right now and catch one. He's throwing a jig and doing pretty good.
Feathers and Fins Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Could have but I haven't thrown one yet, not sure if they will be accessible anytime soon now. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Members westbranchfly Posted February 17, 2015 Author Members Posted February 17, 2015 I'm guessing there are better chances for a wader during certain times of the year? I'm asking because I've never done it and it looks like something else to try.

Mid-Late Spring is the most popular time as some attempt to spawn, but a good number of them will run up tributary arms after a big rain just about any time of the year and will stay until the big shad leave and the water clears back up.
Feathers and Fins Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Very seldom is wade fishing good on the lake, just not enough open area for back-casting on Beaver Lake, It is pretty much a boat lake unfortunately. I know of guys who do it below Ten-killer from shore but they say the areas from the bank is limited for it. You really need a Boat! Springtime on Beaver Lake is a excellent time to look for top water. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Ham Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Lost fly lines and backings. Getting spooled is a great concept and a terrible reality. I came within inches of being spooled by a accidentily hooke Spoonbill on Table Rock up the James Creek arm. We chased him with the TM and I got line back. That was close enough for me.
