rFisherk Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 As many of you know, I'm a defender of the MDC. I don't agree with, or like, everything they do, but I must keep in mind they are managing fish and wildlife for everyone, not just me. I consider them among the best of their kind in the nation, because I've seen the pitiful way some state's departments are forced to operate because of legislative control. My concern is for the quality and quantity of conservation principles now and for generations to come. Nevertheless, I'm in no way beholding to MDC or blinded in any fan boy fashion, and I do believe there are a few legitimate complaints. In fact, I'm making a list, not in a way to attack them or give fuel to those with the ultimate goal of controlling their monies or bending their rules to appease special interests, but to ensure that our best, common, interest are paramount in their decision making process. If you think you have a legitimate complaint that should be on this list, send me a PM with a brief description of your complaint. We'll trade email addresses to keep it private and gather more details. I have my own complaint, which I think is very legitimate, but I will not air it here, preferring to see how many contact me unprompted with the same one. Once the list is completed, I'll deliver it to the Director and Assistant Director of the Department of Conservation and to the Executive Director of the Conservation Federation of Missouri, all of whom I know personally. Terrierman Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Great idea. I'd like to see the lifetime hunting and fishing permit option extended to deer and turkey. I'd also like to see more range facilities around the state, similar to what's at Busiek. Nothing major or really formal, just more places like that. I guess it's a stretch to see those as complaints but there you go. bs1827 1
Feathers and Fins Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 My biggest complaints about MDC was in the lifetime license, it should have at least 1 deer and 1 turkey tag included in it. The other complaint was they seem to cater more to deer hunting than anything else. I would really wish they had a good waterfowl hunting area in the SW area of the state something on Par with 4-rivers and my final complaint is they need to do more for Quail, with grow out technology the way it is and simple planting of fence rows or just hedges on their properties they could really help bring quail numbers way up. All are simple things but in the long run they take money and that money from what I have seen from MDC takes away from Deer, Lumber and actually involves a commitment to things other than deer. Don't get me wrong I like deer hunting but there is far more to the outdoors than deer. And yes I do have a lifetime Mo license so I did invest in Mo when I lived there. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856

I always love when I hear the complaint that they cater to the Deer hunters. Now just how do they cater to Deer hunters? And just where in southwest Missouri would you like for them to build a wildlife area on par with Four Rivers? And I just don't understand how the declining quail population due to poor land-use management is the MDC's fault. You need to be complaining to the landowners about that. But it will take more than fence rows to turn around the decline in the quail population. But that is a good place to start. rFisherk 1 Chief Grey Bear Living is dangerous to your health Owner Ozark Fishing Expeditions Co-Owner, Chief Executive Product Development Team Jerm Werm Executive Pro Staff Team Agnew Executive Pro Staff Paul Dallas Productions Executive Pro Staff Team Heddon, River Division Chief Primary Consultant Missouri Smallmouth Alliance Executive Vice President Ronnie Moore Outdoors
Members rondo Posted February 26, 2015 Members Posted February 26, 2015 I accidentally flushed a small covey(6-8 birds) off of a fencerow on my place last fall. Have no idea where they came from and haven't seen them since. Had not seen any quail on this place in the 30+ years we have owned this property. It was pretty cool to see them. . bs1827 and ness 2
Seth Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 There are a few things I wish they did different, but it's for selfish reasons and not from a scientific stand point. I'm very happy with the MDC. Most of the issues I hear people complaining about are for selfish reasons as well. Chief Grey Bear and Daryk Campbell Sr 2
Members Claybuster Posted February 27, 2015 Members Posted February 27, 2015 It's a problem when a Missouri resident can't get into the duck park "four rivers" because all of the out of staters won the draw:( It's a problem when I spend my time, effort, money scouting for a good dove shoot only to have an MDC officer walk across the field that I am hunting" right in the prime shooting " to check my MULTIPLE licenses that I've had to purchase. Don't misunderstand my post, there are a lot of things that the MDC has done right! Point is that sometimes you just can't see the forest, because all the trees are in the way! Oh and hey RONDO,,,,,, I think those quail were migratory quail:):) Peace rondo 1 Executive pro staff -- team Little Debbie Executive pro staff -- team quiktrip long johns Executive pro staff -- team I hate minners Executive pro staff -- team moose don't know he's a dog

Oh and hey RONDO,,,,,, I think those quail were migratory quail:):) Peace Actually what you are complaining about is because of the success of the MDC. The MDC also offers many many areas of excellent waterfowl hunting that do not require being drawn to hunt it. But some people prefer the easier hunts. I'm a bit perplexed as to how the agent was to know that you were fully licensed. Was he supposed to wait until you were done hunting and may have possibly illegally killed your limit of birds? Or maybe more than your limit? Flysmallie Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Was he supposed to wait until you were done hunting and may have possibly illegally killed your limit of birds? Or maybe more than your limit? Why not? He put himself in danger walking across that field. When I was a kid in Oklahoma it was common occurrence for an agent to be waiting by our vehicles. This is no different than walking around in the woods during deer season and coming up to your stand to make sure you are legal. Claybuster 1
Chief Grey Bear Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 There is a huge difference between dove hunting and deer hunting. And a huge difference between shotguns and rifles.
