This is the point where the bad person in me wants to post a pic of about ten spools of Invizx.

Bill could no doubt do the same with Maxima.

At times the braid/nano deal feels a bit like fixing a problem that doesn't yet exist.

Not so much fixing a problem as looking for any edge you can find. I've fished Maxima for years and never felt handicapped at all. But I have to say that Ham got me to try Nanofil. I've fished the White River a few times with it and it really does let you cast further, especially with the light jigs that are the norm there. I've only fished it once or twice for smallmouth in creeks. The jury is still out there - I break off quite a bit and the leader is still a PITA for me to tie with my old eyes. Have yet to try Nano other than there. But I do think it has a place.

Horses for courses I think is how it goes.

I absolutely KNOW it has helped me put more fish in my boat. I'm confident for most folks it would mean more fish in the boat for them too. If you don't care about catching more fish, stay with what you're using.

I almost always run straight #8 fluoro or yozuri hybrid but i do have one setup with yellow power pro and fluoro leader. i use the power pro setup if i'd dead sticking any sort of soft plastic but i don't do that often. I could see it working well with jigs. I honestly don't use it often because to me it creates another knot to possibly break (though you should be checking those often!) and in the end convenience is another factor for me. I do very well with straight fluoro and i'm sure i could do just as well with a braid/fluoro leader it's just not used AS much. All that being said...i ALWAYS have my braid/fluoro set up ready to roll.

For me, the extra casting distance and the easy hookset from any distance are a huge plus. I have not and will not run straight fluro on spinning. Dang Fluro is so expensive, but clearly better on some bait casting apps. At least on a bait faster, I know the setup will last a year or so.

Fluro spool ups have lasted well over a year for me. Three reels with Nano off a 150 yard spool that lasts for over a year on the reel. And that's with me fishing approx 80 days a year. Not too bad.

The only fluoro i've had issues with was vicious. I normally run seagar red or if i want to spend a little more ill go berkley 100%. Granted i'm never using anything heavier then #8 so maybe that's why i don't have issues. I know once you go above that fluoro can be difficult to manage due to how stiff it tends to be. I will be giving Nano a try soon.

I actually use 8# yozuri hybrid leader instead of floro. Its cheaper & more abrasion resistant plus it doesn't curl up as bad.

So I've got yozuri on my spare spool, which I use to pull my leader material off.

The braid/leader combo provides me with the utmost confidence in heavy cover.

I don't hesitate to put the Ned down in a cedar tree, logjam or rootball. Typically, if I get hung it doesn't break at the alberto knot but at the jighead.

Tying leaders in the wind or current can be nerve racking but I'm willing to put up the extra effort.

The pflueger is another reason why I'm reel shopping.

I hooked a good un at hot lake & the drag locked up. I freaked out for a second, until I got it in the boat.

That looks like it might be a Pflueger Trion which is there bottom of the line reel. I personally use Presidents and have some some Purist. If you want a large spool reel there is the Pflueger Arbor which currently is on sale at Dunn's Sporting Goods for $59.88, free shipping normally an $80 reel.

That's actually a president that I got on sale at Tackle warehouse 50% off in 2008.

Its been a good reel but now its going to be reserved for crappie & bream outings.

I've heard good things about the Arbor, thanks for pointing that out.
