Smallieguy87 Posted March 13, 2015 Author Posted March 13, 2015 3.5" for sure. Either the pumpkin or sometimes a "sand" color is where it's at. Why are you fellas getting away from tube baits? Cause they work too good? i was kind of wondering the same. I think a lot of guys are throwing Ned rigs so maybe there's a shift in focus and to each his own really. I had never heard of the Ned rig until i came here which wasn't so long ago and its still on my list to try. My favorite the has produced the most fish for me is the BPS 4" Magnum Flippin Tube in Puke color. Cheap and the are pretty stout and last for quite a few fish. . Use a 1/4-3/8oz tube jig rigged weed less. I really like the double dipped tubes they have. The profile on them is really nice and they hold up pretty well. The tender tubes i didn't care for as much but still work fine. I wish they made the puke color in the double dipped tubes. They make it in the 2.75 teaser tube but and i've wanted to give them a try but i hear its tough to find a proper size tube jig for them.
dtrs5kprs Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I've been wanting to try some bitsy tubes but i have heard its tought to get a tube jig to fit properly. How do you rig it Trophy? I just stuff the finesse heads up in the 2 & 1/2" tubes (wire guard Varmint/Ned heads). Push the guard forward, run it in the tube, poke the wire thru, and push the eye out. Done. For sure a Ned/Varmint/Little Rig is not a replacement for a tube, though they can be fished in similar places at similar times. Ends up being quite a different profile on the bottom, and swims completely differently, especially compared to the old thin walled "gitzit" type tubes.

Well I have even more of a reason to place an order for a couple handfuls of those jigs you make sir! I have some of the originals gitzits from canyon plastics but I don't think they're as thin as what they used to be.
Ham Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Well the Ned and a tube are different, but so far I can only fish one bait at a time. Often, if I am not fishing a Ned, I'm costing myself fish. Smallieguy87 1 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
jtram Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 What Ham said. But if i have a tude on its a Bitsy Tube in about whatever color looks right at the time, 1/8 oz stand up jig head. Smallieguy87 1

But i did have champ hunt down some of the BPS exclusive wiggle warts to give a go this year. I have a medium light abu veritas but im not sure how well it would for ned rigs as it seems overly stiff.
Guest Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 The Ned will outfish the tube on the rivers. The tube hangs up too often & is a pain to replace the plastic body. Believe it or not, the Ned had a very similar spiraling type descent in the rivers, very much like the tube. You can swim the Ned, whereas its hard to swim a tube without it rolling over. Thats why I quit using tubes in the rivers, they just arent as versatile or efficient as the Ned.
Smallieguy87 Posted March 13, 2015 Author Posted March 13, 2015 It can be frustrating using a tube bait when it comes to hang ups. The angled eye jigs do help with that and i usually have a few pre rigged so when one does hang up its not such a pain to tie another. It is tough to swim a tube. If i swim something its usually a grub. If they like a more aggressive movement on the tube i'll usually hop it more then drag it which also tend to reduce some snags. When i first started using a tube jig id go through a pack of jigs in no time so i started buying them in huge numbers! I hang up much less often now but find i still buy as many packs as possible. When you guys Ned rig do you only use a senko style plastic or do you try a few other plastic bodies? I do somewhat of a similar method with 4.5inch paddle tail worms on occasion.
Ham Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Ned and the Kansas crew have tried everything this side of a gummy worm on the Ned. I'm just gonna grind it out with half a zero or Zinker. Screw playing around, I've got fish to catch. I watched a Ned fall on slack in gin clear water and it had a wonderful death spiral. Not at all what I expected. Ham Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I was told a Ned was gonna replace a tube and a grub for me and I thought those comments were crazy, but they were real close to 100% correct. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
