Ned and the Kansas crew have tried everything this side of a gummy worm on the Ned. I'm just gonna grind it out with half a zero or Zinker. Screw playing around, I've got fish to catch.

I watched a Ned fall on slack in gin clear water and it had a wonderful death spiral. Not at all what I expected.

Thanks Ham! It sounded like most people tend to use senko style baits and the zman seems to be the most popular which i'm assuming is how durable they are. Was just curious if anyone has luck using any other sort of plastic body.

I was told a Ned was gonna replace a tube and a grub for me and I thought those comments were crazy, but they were real close to 100% correct.

I speak from experience. Lol

I like the death spiral reference.

There are lots of other things that work, but none of them work as well, or as consistently as the cut Elaztech sticks. A variety of other Zman baits work, and occasionally I will throw a tiny brush hog or tiny paca chunk. Those are just change of pace baits though.

It goes beyond the durability. The Elaztech has tremendous advantages in terms of flotation, buoyancy (more applied to how it swims), and how long fish will hold it.

Like Ham noted, a lot of other baits have been tried, and for me, mostly discarded. Nothing so far beats that cut stick. Will see how the new TRD fares this year.

Can't say I didn't warn him about the grub deal...

Thanks! I really appreciate you and Ham elaborating a bit more. Once i have more suitable tackle i may have to give the ned a try. That video was a great example. That's impressive action out of the Zman stuff.

The video really shocked me when I put it together. We shot it last summer and kind of forgot it. I knew it did some special things, but did not realize the full extent. Hope to get some video of the 1/8 to compare. There is something about the 1/8 that makes it very effective.

Well i'm always open to learning a new technique as i like to be a well versed angler. Do you ever feel like you've pigeonholed your self with this presentation? (Granted i'm asking you this not really knowing how you fish or other things you may throw)

I'd like to see the 1/8 video when you have it ready. I find 1/8 is about perfect for most plastics i throw....well that and i don't know how well most of my tackle would throw 1/16 anyway lol

Those who have peeked in my hatches would tell you I am prepared to fish any way necessary. A-rigs to hair jigs, at any time. That noted, I fished slow and small before the Ned, now I just fish slower and smaller. I learned to fish in Iowa and northern MO, little state and county lakes that might have 40 or 50 boats covering up their 500 acres on a weekend. Taught me to be thorough and pick things apart.

Pigeon holed is not quite right, but as Ham pointed out, it will ruin you. It is so easy to catch fish with that you simply won't fish other things. When you do pick something else up, in the back of your mind you will know you are leaving fish in the lake by not throwing the little guy.

well said. I was taught the the slow and steady method by my great uncle. When i was young id be plugging away and he would be sitting there slowly working this old 6 inch curl tail worm he swore by which was electric blue with a fire tail by the way. Sometimes i swear i would cast out and reel in 10-15 times before he would throw back out. That being said he always caught more fish then me when we fished together. I now use that very same frame of mind. I feel like i could fish just about any soft plastic effectively on a jig head of some sort and slice cover up into angles. I don't have any issues fishing easy though! i love to swim a 4-5' grub which to me is as simple as it gets and it always seems to work! I have no doubt the Ned is a great rig and i do look forward to fishing it. I guess when it comes to a technique so easy yet so deadly its a tough decision to use anything else. I wonder if my medium power rods with #8 fluoro would kill the action to much?
