dtrs5kprs Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Hmmmmmmmmm. Well I will definitely be giving this a go! This is literally the opposite of how I have been doing it and my frame of mind. Working wet though low psi is obviously how you have to do it to avoid pushing it around. Thank you for spelling this out! 1. Mix watery thin using water, reducer, or both. 2. Shoot 35+ psi and the paint dries in route to the bait Is that about all I need to know? Doing small detail lines isn't a problem? Lines should be easier. Check this link...cripes it is 10 years old. No wonder I feel old. http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/topic/4709-air-brush-basics-for-dummies-d/#entry30601
Guest Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 I mixed Reducer, transparent black & transparent base. Wow, the results are nothing short of amazing. It was the "ah hah' moment that I've been needing. The black craw shell stencil is finally perfect for the phantom. I realized that reducer & transparent base are totally different, when all 3 mixed together it made a few bubbles in the paint, like it was mixing. 5 years without actual reducer, haha. Hats off to you guys that spent decades perfecting the art of the re-paint.
Kee sims Posted March 23, 2015 Author Posted March 23, 2015 Do you guys buy name brand and repaint if so how do you guys get original paint or finish off the lure for the new custom paint or do most buy blanks. I ordered some blanks but afraid to see how they'll run once finished. Lol

I ordered some blanks but afraid to see how they'll run once finished. Lol All of the above. Anything you buy, needs to be test run before the sanding/priming/painting/clear coating process. There's Nothing worse than finding out your recently repainted pre-rapala wiggle wart doesn't run right.
5bites Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 So far I really like the knock off warts from predator. I threw one Saturday and it behaved just like a wart should. I see no reason to pay the outrageous pre rap prices. I do think the plastic is a little softer though but the jury is still out on that.
5bites Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 I'm glad you made some progress for your transparent black trophy. I hope you post up some pics soon.
Members Rob Shaw Posted March 23, 2015 Members Posted March 23, 2015 This was supposed to be V208 red craw, instead it turned out to be more like V86 Missouri craw. Either way, it should catch fish in stained to muddy water. WOW! I wish my mistakes came out looking like that! Very nice.
Guest Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 The biggest thing I noticed was the paint goes on drier now that its atomized. This whole time, I thought reducer & transparent base were the same thing. I was dead wrong. Once I reduced & mixed with paint, I could tell a HUGE difference. Then adding a couple drops of transparent base really kicked it off. Its not prefect yet, but Im going in the right direction now. Basically, I was able to achieve the transparent black shell design that Storm has on their baits, which really surprised me.
5bites Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Was you shooting at the high psi as was recommended before? I haven't got to experiment yet.
Guest Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 yes, Ive always ran 30-40psi especially with pearl colors, maybe higher The reducer was the game changer for me.
