gitnby
For the first time this Spring, we should be having 4-5 days of fairly stable weather, starting tomorrow? Overnight lows in mid 40's and highs in the upper 60's forecast through early next week. Water temps should be rising steadily, and you gotta think the fish will finally be on the move shallow? The big variable, depending on where you are on the lake, is the water clarity. Still clear on most of the main lake, from what I can see? I assume the rivers and creeks are still going to be stained to muddy for several more days, which should be where we'll find the 50 degree+ water. Have my Son coming down to fish with me Friday through Monday. Just put new hooks on the vintage warts! I'm ready for this!
rps
I get to go out Saturday, the first day of my Spring Break. I am looking forward to finding a small bite.
gitnby
I'm with you on that! I'm thinkin they should be just sittin on the breaks and edges waitin to attack that pea gravel! Found some around docks on Monday. Docks were all in pockets or small coves near pea gravel.

Sac River Jim
Its already been a strange pre spawn bite for me. Usually Stockton is a couple weeks behind tablerock in the spring.I watch patterns on the rock then apply it later to Stockton with some success. This year has been different. I'm on a strange bite I'm already finding both whites and green fish mixed in with 6 to 8 inch gizzard shad up in the creek pockets on shallow pea gravel banks. I'm not sure if the shad are spawning this early or they are following the 50 to 53 degree water I'm finding. I can't figure out why why the whites and small bass are mixed in with the shad unless there's smaller bait fish mixed in that I'm not seeing. Stockton doesn't have threadfin shad so that might play into the formula but I'm coming down Sunday and see if I can get on a similar shallow jerkbait bite. Macsimus
Fished Long Creek Monday (3/16). Caught 7 with only two keeps. Water was 52 in the morning and by mid-afternoon I saw temps up to 57 at times. All 7 fish came on a wart. The two keepers came from the same spot in approx 7-8' along a broken rock bank. That particular spot seems to have snaggier rock than anywhere else in the area I fished. The first keeper just engulfed the wart after I popped it loose from where it was hung up in a rock. I marked a lot of fish in the 12-14' range but could not get them to go. Tried deeper cranks, deep down husky jerk, Ned, swinghead w/Zoom Baby Brush Hog. There was a fair amount of debris floating but if you were paying attention, it was avoidable. The water,as you soufers say, had some color to it. It was definitely dirtier in some spots, cleaner in some of the creeks. Also, I can't believe the number of boats I saw for a Monday. Doesn't anyone work for a living any more? Mondays are always busy. Think a lot of folks do long weekends. Or there are a lot more barbers than I think there are. Too much color for my taste. I'd boogie back to some clear water. gitnby
Pete Wenners report this week was interesting. http://www.hookedonbass.com/FISHREPORT.htm He said he likes to find spots where the muddy water meets the clear water. I had sorta forgotten about that trick? Used to be a good tactic when I fished LOZ a lot back in the old days! He also said the water may come up some more and we may see some flooded bushes? Quillback
It's up to 914, but looks like they are running water like crazy so maybe it has peaked for now. But, more rain in the forecast next week. I'd like to see 917, that would put it up in the buck brush.

If they are pulling it hard now might be a good time to throw big cranks and a-rigs at long points and islands, as in 2012. There is still a very solid finesse bite, even in the water with color, at least from the pics and videos that have been sent my way.
