gitnby Posted March 22, 2015 Author Posted March 22, 2015 Fog was unbelievable this morning! We decided to go out at 7:30 AM anyway, and just put down the trolling motor and worked the shoreline next to the dock. Water was dead slick, but my Son obviously didn't know that a jerkbait won't work on slick water? So, third cast with his new friend, McStick, he nails this LM. Me, with the Megabass? Nothing! 2 days in row he outfishes me! So, I watched him retrieve the JB, and he was doing it all wrong! Instead of pausing after after the jerk, jerk, twitch, he would continue to reel slowly for 3 or 4 turns of the handle, and then repeat the cadence. bait never stopped or paused. gatorbitu and Muddy Water 2
magicwormman Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Nice fish and a good looking young man too!! That's the beauty of fishing, not a wrong way to fish a bait. The biggest tip anyone ever gave me, was too ALLOW the fish to tell me what, and how they want it. Several years ago, I watch two guys fishing a jerk bait with a slow steady retrieve, just under the surface. They were just crawling the bait and just whacking them. We've also seen fisherman fishing a wiggle wart very fast and erratic with outstanding success. Just when we think we have a handle on fishing someone comes along with some unorthodox method to catch fish. The wacky worm was another good example. If those Wisconsin farmers had never went to Texas. we never would have come up with that method.
gitnby Posted March 22, 2015 Author Posted March 22, 2015 Well, this kid just won't listen to me at all! I told him it was too early to try the Fish Doctor. So, he ties it on and boats this smallie? Champ188 1
