Guest Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 I solo my buffalo for years. Sit in the front seat & face backwards. It puts you in the middle of the boat. Its not as nimble or quick as a kayak or solo canoe, but you can certainly do the upstream & drift back trips.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 There's a bunch of canoes on stlcraigslist. Pete
ness Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Yeah, I saw that one on craigslist the other day. Too much money for me. I'll keep looking around. That KC paddler had a couple I wouldn't mind having, but it looks like they are going out of business? I emailed them so I guess I will see. They're kinda out of business. They closed up their shop in Lawrence a few years back, and the one in KC more recently. I heard the owner was just ready to retire so he shut it down and was selling off the remaining inventory. Apparently he recently passed away unexpectedly, but from their website it looks like they're still sellong what remains. If you come up to KC during the week to see them, let me know. I work fairly close to their Peculiar shop. If you make it between 1100 and 100 I'd try to hook up for lunch. Which boats of theirs did you like? John
Al Agnew Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Paddling a tandem canoe solo is always a trade-off. No tandem will be as nimble, easy, and simply fun to paddle as a good solo. And there's always the weight consideration. On the other hand, you get a more versatile canoe that WILL take two people and lots of gear. I wasn't impressed with the Buffalo the times I paddled it...good for the kind of mild whitewater you find on the steeper Arkansas streams, but very slow, and the high ends caught the wind badly. And it was heavy. I'd sell my old beater Vagabond for $2000
ness Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 I'd sell my old beater Vagabond for $2000 Ha! Last trade was at $850, but this ain't exactly a liquid market John
ollie Posted March 26, 2015 Author Posted March 26, 2015 Ness, I got the impression they were closing shop due to the guy dying, but it looked like they had the boats still for sale. I emailed them today, but didn't hear back from them. They had CRAZY prices on some of those boats. I liked the Compass boats and the Bell Bucktail. I wonder if the boats are all sold and they just haven't updated the webpage. Al, I would have to take out a loan at that price! lol "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!
ness Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 They've been closed up for a while, since before the owner died. Could be the web site is out of date. John
GloryDaze Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Yeah- Lynn passed away about a month ago. They had closed for a while, but then decided to open again prior to Lynn passing away. I got an e-mail from them, they are honoring all purchases made prior to his death but are now closed permanently. Follow me on Twitter @DazeGlory
ollie Posted March 26, 2015 Author Posted March 26, 2015 I got an email back from them so we will see what happens. Apparently they still have some boats for sale. I might be road trippin soon!
