bferg Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Hit up the back of prairie creek this morning for a couple hours before work looking for Stripers and or whites. Marked a lot of fish between the gravel ramp in back and the swimming area- but could not get bit. Fished from 5:30 to 7:15. Mainly trolling flicker shads and throwing Kai Techs. If they won't bite either of those then what will they bite?? There were 6 dead carp in the bank - had been shot with a bow. Seriously? If you want to bow fish can you at least do something with your "catch" besides dumping them at the ramp? I get that it isn't a striper or large mouth but hate to see the lack of respect both for the lake/fish and other people.
fishinwrench Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Yeah the bowfishing crowd is giving themselves a bad name, fast. If they just need something to shoot at then somebody needs to invent some kind of underwater targets I guess. No need to kill fish just to have something to shoot at.
bluebasser86 Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Love bowfishing, hate to see them dumped like that. I never have a problem either finding a catfisherman who's more than willing to use them for cutbait, or someone that's open to eating them. At least if you are going to dump them, do it away from the crowd, not at a ramp or by someone's dock. They won't go to waste completely, raccoon and vultures have to eat too, but it does look awful when they're dumped. Shows a lack of respect for the fish and for people who have to deal with the aftermath.
Quillback Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Not a good idea to dump them at the ramp for sure. I imagine that is at that gravel launch in PC? Vultures may get them, but it's not good to have vultures hanging around a place where you are parked, nothing worse than coming back to a vehicle covered with vulture crap.

Members Dan Sweeney Posted April 9, 2015 Members Posted April 9, 2015 Yeah that is a shame. Even if you take them home and bury them under your tomato plants to be "recycled"... Better than leaving them by ramp. I love to bowhunt and have bowfished some, and probably will again, but there are better ways to handle dead carp. Silence is golden.
Feathers and Fins Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Bferg, I couldn't help but to think about this today as I was fishing. You may want to send a report to AGFC. they cant do anything now about this but they might be able to keep an eye out and catch the culprits. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
hoglaw Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Which part is illegal? Not arguing, just a legitimate question. Is it that they were supposed to dump them somewhere else, or that they dumped them to begin with?
fishinwrench Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 I'm on the fence with Carp. 10-15 years ago I wouldn't have cared how many were killed nor what were done with them....but NOW they have become a sportfish pretty much with guys flyfishing for them and stuff. So now, even though I'm not personally into chasing "Golden Bones" on the fly, they have kinda graduated in rank and I hate to see them killed off just to rot along the bank. It just doesn't feel right. I'd rather see them kill spoonbill to be truthful. If they just want something in the water to shoot at then invent some targets and devise a scoring system like the archery 3D shoots.
Members PMB Posted April 10, 2015 Members Posted April 10, 2015 I am not sure if they are a sport fish in AR. but in Ok they are definitely not. I have no problem with them dumping them but why bring them to the ramp . Heck just shoot the dad gum things and shake them off the arrow and get another one. Leave them in the lake not at the ramp.
