BilletHead Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Missed the first three days of season due to being a fishing buddy with Reeling and Healing. So this morning was the first day out. Mrs. BilletHead in tow on her day off. We found four birds. Three pretty hot ones together and a single less talkative bird. We got between them and set up. The Mrs. to my right and the hot talkers. I hit the slate and got all their attention. Wouldn't you know it the hot birds were just mouthy and the conservative bird came in slowly but surely on my side and I took him out. Largest bird for me to date. 23 pounds 8 oz. Four beards. 11" 8.5" 7" and 7" 1.25" on the longest spur. fishinwrench Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Glad you hammered that nasty old thing. Least you'll have some useful feathers. That's right, I don't care for eating wild turkey's, gimme a store bought bird every time. Yeah I know...."I haven't had it fixed right"....Whatever. They are fun to hunt though.
BilletHead Posted April 23, 2015 Author Posted April 23, 2015 Yes Wrench they are tough but more tasty that that mushy butterball. kind of like the groceries from my garden. By the way got your garden going yet? Have the legs and thighs in the crockpot going. Will be going with noodles and entering a crater of mashed taters this weekend. That will not be tough. It will be fried strips of wild turkey breast this afternoon. Got the Mrs. out with the push mower doing some of the lawn while I am recovering from the last three days and this mornings hunt. Things are good here in BilletHeadville today! fishinwrench Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 I have some wild cherry tomatoes that come up every year on their own and take off across the yard. We drive steaks in the ground just to keep them corralled. That's all the "gardening" you'll catch me doing
ness Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Will be going with noodles and entering a crater of mashed taters this weekend. Don't forget the corn! I have some wild cherry tomatoes that come up every year on their own and take off across the yard. We drive steaks in the ground just to keep them corralled. That's all the "gardening" you'll catch me doing I don't understand your eating habits. Why put steaks in the ground? John
fishinwrench Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Don't they grow into cows ? Steaks/Stakes ... I'll blame autocorrect even though I think I just goofed. ness 1
jdmidwest Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Nice. I nailed a 3 beard bird once. Several double beards. But that may be the first 4 beard bird I have seen. I saw a bearded hen while crusing around back roads yesterday. I nailed my bird on Monday morning. 19 lbs, 10" beard, 1 1/4 spur. Not much fun, silent bird that just happened to be at the wrong place at the right time. Ham 1 "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. JohnP Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 Congrats on a awsome bird BH. Yet to take a multi bearded bird but know there's one on the hit list I'm after starting Monday since I filled the first week tag on Wednesday . Got one bird with a noticeable gap between his beards ive seen a couple times while scouting, just have yet to see him while I'm hunting.
