dtrs5kprs Posted May 1, 2015 Author Posted May 1, 2015 Hey Dave, I'm pretty sure I stumbled onto the video of you guys fishing this year. It was amazing catching, but I wish WD had stopped fishing for a little while and filmed you setting the rig up, making the cast, working the Ned, setting the hook, and winding your fish to the boat. It certainly looked like the two of you were having a good time AND catching a PILE of fish. Both years Don had so many fish shots he was not sure how to go about putting them together. He did another "product spotlight" type vid this year that shows him rigging the bait, etc. There are some pretty good shots of hooksets in the first 2015 video, and of me going to knees to fight and land them. Kind of have a process I developed over years of fishing alone. Rarely lose one I intend to dip. And no Ike flopping. I set most of my baits up the night before, two or three of each color and size, so it is mostly tie a new one on at need. Whole shooting process is much harder than it looks. Don is really a master at it, and at editing things together. Do wish he had included one of the fish that took it in a deep cedar only to still see the boat. Puts a period on the Invizx issue. Only issue I have with Invizx and abrasion is around docks. Metal and cables are tough on it. Think it got a bad rap in the higher tests when folks expected it to fish like Carbon Pro. It is different in the lighter tests. Handles like thread. Much more limp than Maxima. dtrs5kprs Posted May 1, 2015 Author Posted May 1, 2015 Invis X has the abrashion resistance of wet toilet paper. I can not imagine how you guys are getting away with dragging the Ned thru the battlefield and not breaking off on every hookset. Much to learn, have you. Insert Yoda chuckle. Donna G 1
Ham Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015 Much to learn, have you. Insert Yoda chuckle. That is certainly true, but I have found a line that works for me and that doesn't have to be replaced every three trips. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish

We'll have to run a head to head one of these days. Truthfully, I probably respool more than needed, but it is cheap insurance.
Quillback Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015 I get more than 3 trips out of mine. But I don't fish the Ned for 16 hrs a day for multiple days in a row like some do.
dtrs5kprs Posted May 2, 2015 Author Posted May 2, 2015 I get more than 3 trips out of mine. But I don't fish the Ned for 16 hrs a day for multiple days in a row like some do. Don't think I exceeded the eleven hour mark this trip. Too cold in the mornings to get an early start. I would deal with the line the same way if I was swimming grubs, throwing shakey heads, or dragging the doctor. Can't count how many times I've had one wrap 6# Invizx around wood only to swim out and see the boat. First time was close to 10 years ago with the old carbon pro. Shakey head and 6# in pole timber with a 3# brown fish in Schooner.
mixermarkb Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 I liked carbon pro a lot, but invisix is too stretchy for me. I know I'm almost as much of a broken record as Ham with his Nano, but Sunline Sniper kills on spinning tackle. Lasts really well, very durable and abrasion resistant, and handles like a dream on spinning tackle. But then again, I actually like nano for my crappie rig and on the guest spinning reels. It casts well enough to be a bit of a skills equalizer, and has even less twist than mono. For folks who don't fish much, it's pain free.
Ham Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 We'll have to run a head to head one of these days. Truthfully, I probably respool more than needed, but it is cheap insurance. I would of course love to do so. I have seen front of the boat make a huge difference too though. The effect of the line on the lure is not understood by many AND I don't mean to down play its importance. I full line of 10 lb mono may very well negatively impact the presentation of a Ned rig. 10 lb nano with its roughly 6 lb diameter and 8 lb P Line CX Premium with the diameter of many 6 lb monos does not. At least, not in my experience. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Jim Elam Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 You guys are on a different plane than me on this Ned setup deal. I get wHat is on sale at the outlet in braid under 12 lb, then pair it with 6 or 8 lb FC that is on sale. Just have to make sure the FC diameter is larger than the braid so the GT knot bites well. Seems to work pretty well as long as knots are tied carefully. That red label seaguar is good stuff but the knots are tempermental. Can't tell much difference between the FC products otherwise IMO. You might want to give the Albright knot a try. I use it 100% of the time, it works great for me no matter difference of diameters between the braid/NanoFil line verses leader diameters.
