ozark trout fisher Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Never mind. I saw that too and had a similar reaction at first. Still, I'm intrigued by the thought process of someone who goes after large, deadly game with a bow. I suppose it's something like "Yes, I know it will probably take awhile for the arrow to kill the mountain lion, and yes, it will be extremely desperate, angry and ready to lash out in the interim, but no, I can't think of anything that could possibly go wrong."

Flysmallie Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 In the right hands a bow is just as deadly as a rifle. Maybe even more with some of the broadheads available. Â Â
ozark trout fisher Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 I will have to believe you...but dang, you had better be pretty confident in your skills cause I can't imagine there's much margin for error.
bfishn Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 "I have $250,000"... What a coincidence! I have a bridge over the Buffalo! Call Me! I can't dance like I used to.
Al Agnew Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 You can pretty much bet the mountain lion was killed using dogs. It ain't very dangerous shooting one with a bow when the dogs have treed it. Mountain lions are afraid of dogs (in packs...they might eat a single small dog if given the chance), and will either stay in the tree or take a flying leap out of it to run away. My brother-in-law shot one with a bow. The guide with the dogs carried a rifle just in case, but told him he'd never had to shoot one to protect a client, just to kill the lion after a bad shot from the client or to keep the lion from getting away and leading the dogs on a longer chase. Chances are this guy shot his with a guide under the same type of situation. Personally, it doesn't seem like much of a challenge. I guess if I really wanted one mounted I might shoot one that was treed by dogs, but I don't really see the point. We recently bought a nice piece of ground on the Meramec, with tentative plans to eventually sell our house and build a small house on it. However, there's no way I'd build a house within sight of the river unless it was on top of a high bluff on a river as popular as the Meramec.
