Quillback Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Hola Amigos! Caught another trout today, nice fat 16" rainbow. Son of a gun absolutely hammered the Ned and peeled drag for a few seconds faster than any bass I caught today. 3rd trout I've caught this year out of TR, and never had caught one here until this spring. Fishing was slow in the AM, water was dead flat calm, but the wind picked up about 10 AM and the fishing picked up with it. Caught 25 bass, 6 - 8 keepers, but no wall hangers. Caught 8-9 smallies which is unusual for me on this end of the lake. 2 of the smallies were keepers. Ned was the deal, I tried to catch them on other stuff, but only caught one bass on a jig. Most of the fish were very shallow, the wind had them biting right off the edge of the buck brush. Went to a 1/8 oz head because of the wind, but that was OK with the fish. Used Dirt, and that glitteri Craw Zinkerz. Surface temps 67-69. Black tailed LM Dark smallie Sac River Jim, Hammer time, huntest and 3 others 6
motoman Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Great report and pix as usual Quill! That looks like Canada Craw if I'm not mistaken? We had success with that too the past few days.........in the wind of course too.:-)
Quillback Posted May 5, 2015 Author Posted May 5, 2015 Canada Craw - yes, thanks - I could not remember the name.
denjac Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 You didn't fling a blade at those buck brush fish? Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. For a nation to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle." ~ Winston Churchill ~
dtrs5kprs Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Old Larry has one heck of an under bite to go with that black tail.
motoman Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Canada Craw - yes, thanks - I could not remember the name. - Why I remember it, is because when my buddy (hockey player) and I would hook a fish on that color the past few days; we would break out into the first few bars of the Canadian National Anthem. - "Oh.......Canada..........our home and native land......":-P - A bit of an homage to the fine colored craw, our neighbors to the north inspired. Or just the basic giddiness that happens when the morale shoots thru the roof, in a boat that's been fishless for hours..........and then the bite is on.:-)
Quillback Posted May 6, 2015 Author Posted May 6, 2015 You didn't fling a blade at those buck brush fish? Nope, but I did think about it. I bet a fluke could get them also.

Then again, I used to fish with a guy who was in a little band. We used to sing Patsy Cline in the rain at Truman.
Quillback Posted May 6, 2015 Author Posted May 6, 2015 We used to sing Patsy Cline in the rain at Truman. I hope you changed some the lyrics: I fall to pieces Each time a bass breaks my line...
