yaknar Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 I usually kayak alone, but with all this talk about Ned, I thought I would invite him to come along. He didn't have to ride with the rest of my lures, I made him a seat up front. I caught my first fish standing on the ramp at Shelvin before I even got the kayak in the water. The fish wanted slow crankbaits today, reeling in slow and pausing. Caught smallmouth, goggle eye, bluegill and pumpkinseeds. Saw a canoe. They said they had only caught one today as they paddled by. Before he went around the bend in the river I had caught 5 more. If he had just slowed down... I had to perform a hookectomy on the last bass pictured. I caught her and after removing the lure I thought I saw a crawdad antenna in her mouth. But it was a hook with a line on it in the roof of her mouth. It came out easily. I think I get granted 3 wishes. Took a few pictures, released them all, Great day on the river.... bs1827, ness, Smallieguy87 and 1 other 4
Mofloatjunkie Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Nice fish. Good job on the hookectomy. I seem to catch more goggle eye with Ned in the boat than bass.
Members wishin I was fishin Posted May 20, 2015 Members Posted May 20, 2015 Good job on hook removal, I took a Carolina rig out of a Bass at Stockton a few weeks ago. It's nice to save one when you can. Everyone laughs at me but I smash the barbs on my hooks when I fish the river, I don't lose very many fish and its just for fun anyway.
Quillback Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 That little bench seat for 'Ned' cracks me up. Nice looking smallies!
Ham Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 The Zebco's crack me up, but I caught a lot of fish on mine sooooo. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish

Flysmallie Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 The Zebco's crack me up, but I caught a lot of fish on mine sooooo. Yeah that's probably why he hasn't caught anything on the Ned. I hear you have to have at least a $400 setup to be able to fish it. Chief Grey Bear 1
Mofloatjunkie Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 My 35 dollar setup catches fish with the ned ALL DAY. No need for expensive setups.

I'm not sure I have a $400 dollar set up in spinning or baitcasting. It's pretty easy for a flyrod combo to top $400 and I have several that do, but not my standard gear. I do think "better" gear fishes better and is more enjoyable to fish with, but if you're a Zebco/Ugly Stick guy, have at it. It's all about having fun anyway. Smallieguy87 Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Good pics and report and an awesome job saving that smallie. I dig seeing the old school zebco's in that picture. Fishing doesn't have to be expensive or complicated i appreciate the little things like that.
