Codywskeeter1521 Posted May 23, 2015 Author Posted May 23, 2015 I'm not a tournament fisherman and I really have no business posting on this thread. But I just want to tell you I love the advice that you posted. I quit fishing lakes years ago and I'm basically strictly a river fisherman. And I will admit I have days that I just cannot catch them. And I think to myself what is the deal! And I'll come on here and I'll see reports from guys are just slaughtering them. I'm thinking holy cow do I really suck that bad? Well yeah sometimes I guess I do! That is not something that we like to admit but sometimes we just have to. I salute you Champ and you also Cody for posting this. You both are champs in my book! Thank you. I really appreciate those kind words. cody, that is why it is called fishing and not catching. one thing that caught my attention about your plan of attack, and that is it seemed you fished a lot of gravel. i have not looked in the last few days, but for a while the lake had a ton of water running through it, and was dropping. this will normally pull the better bass of the flats and suspend. this means you will have to either figure out how to deal with the suspended bass, or fish areas that are more vertical where access to the bank is at arms length so to speak. I'm fishing again tonight to try and redem myself lol. I'm going to do a better job on using my graphs maybe I can graph some fish suspended in some trees. Thank you.
Dewayne French Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 We all fish in a short window frame (at least most of us) & truth is sometimes we miss the bite. You can be doing the right stuff in the right place at the right time and they not be biting. We can't hit it right every tournament day or pleasure fishing day. I wise older fishing guide and great guy once told me that he had kept records for years and in looking back at his normal 7 day fishing span. He would have 2 great days, 2 medium days and 3 bad days. I don't get to fish every day and some times I get bites and sometimes not. Fish dont have to eat everyday even in warm water Temps. But in warm water most feed at night. All I can say is keep going I do. Champ188 1
96 CHAMP Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 I believe the best advice you have recieved is from Champ, I do not know the man personally, but have read enough of his advice and what i would call trials and tribulations of his fishing episodes to know he is a man of his word. Every time i go fishing and don't have luck I chalk it up as a learning experience, the only thing I did do right was have fun!! jtram, dtrs5kprs and Donna G 3

I still feel bad that we got our wires crossed last time. Who knew Danna's has 3 locations? Look forward to it.
Members flyrod17 Posted May 24, 2015 Members Posted May 24, 2015 I haven't fished tournaments in 30 years, but Champs comment were true then and now, heads up and remember to learn something from every trip, store it away for later trips. One other thing I might add, never get stuck on a bait. If something doesn't work, move and jab...i.e. keep several rods rigged and chunk and wind....works for a little known bass fisherman named Kevin Van Dam, might work for you too Champ188 1 "I'm Haunted by Water"

As Ham has started calling it, the beetle grub without a spinner. flyrod17 1

Codywskeeter1521 Posted May 24, 2015 Author Posted May 24, 2015 What did it take to win ? Talked to the guy who won it last night. There was only one limit weighted in. A 3 fish bag took 2nd. Wow who would of thought.
