Amery Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Seems like a good time to get some tips on catching at this level. One thing I always enjoyed was fishing flooded brush/debris. Either flipping or spinnerbait/buzz bait, are the fish likely to move in shallow this time of year? Will they stick with the old shoreline awhile? fisherofmen11 1
Dan the fisherman Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Man good Questions. I haven't tried to fish shallow in a while. I'm catching all bass off points with deep water near by. That seems to be the ticket for me. But I haven't been out since last week Thursday.... And that to me is a long time without fishing. Lol. Especially on beaver. Things change fast.
Mike jones Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Dan-how deep were the bass you were catching? I fished today and struggled!
Feathers and Fins Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 truthfully I wouldn't change my tactics one bit, just move around points till I found the water depth they were in especially with the gates open. If I had to bet I would say 12 to 16ft on the down-current sides. Grumpy53 1 https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Members tommyboyrn Posted May 26, 2015 Members Posted May 26, 2015 Ok question time.....do you use your electronics on those points trying to find the fish or just pull up and start fishing? Im in NE arkansas and fished beaver for 1 day and it was tough. Not used to the exceptional clear water...i figured they would be deep and close to structure (my brother and i were targeting everything with worms and shaky heads to minnows for crappie) just seeing how yall do it....
Sore Thumbs Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 They are shallow. There are certain areas that have flooded willow trees. U find those and u will find fish. Also look in the backs of pockets that have smaller debris piles. If they are too big you can't reach the back of them. Get some 20-25lb flouro and at least a 1/2 oz tungsten weight that is pegged. Use a 3/0 worm hook with a creature bait. Make sure hook is not exposed and let bait fall in every little hole and crevice in that debris pile. They will bite. Just be ready to yank them out in a hurry. One of the funnest way to catch a bass. Amery 1
Dan the fisherman Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Mike there siting in 15-20 FOW.. Some days they'll come up for baits other days u have to fish'em slower and deeper. Got lucky last week and caught a heck of a smallmouth on a jig... Must have been every bit of 2 1/2 pounds. For me that's on the bigger side for smallies.
Quillback Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Definitely get in close and flip those bushes and fish that spinner bait. Amery 1
Feathers and Fins Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Tommy I never beat banks, I like the more open water fish. But with the knowledge the gates are open and generators ripping that means current and current means fish sitting in ambush points on points. I didn't make it out last night like I wanted but I will be out today and may even Bass fish a little. If I do it will be what I said earlier. Points on the down current side in 12 to 16 maybe even 20ft of water and if there is a brush pile on the down current side In that water depth I will be all over it. But the pattern will hold also for striper and walleye so it could be a nice combo trip and bet I will have a Zara Spook tied on they have been killing it lately if shad are present. Sore Thumbs Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 They keep pulling water. There could be some great main lake points that have em stacked up. One of those rare good days.
