My buddy Mike and me Camped at Boiling Springs on the Piney this weekend with our families. Floating was great. Another buddy joined us with his daughter for our float on Friday. 5 kiddos and 5 adults isn't the best recipe for fish catching but it was a ton of fun. My wife really loved paddling the Coosa, and the kids had fun taking turns on two little 6' sit on tops. Fished of and on, bit of rain, and one 7" Google eye. Floated a different reach on Saturday. 7 google eye, maybe 4 legal (8"). Mom's went out Sunday. 4 googleeye. No smallmouth on 16-18 miles of covered water. Guessing it was not on this weekend but still tons of fun. The campground was nice, low key not rowdy at all. Camping and shuttle prices very reasonable. Will be back. Hope the bass co-operate next time.

Hey Gavin:

Thanks for the trip report and the great endorsement for the nice folks at the Boiling Springs Campground. The MSA is holding our Ozarks rodeo there June 26-28 and I'd like to invite all of you "Smallmouth Talk" regulars to come out and join us whether your an MSA member or not. It should be a great time.

fun with friends and family, great time even if the fishing was slow .

what a long strange trip it's been , put a dip in your hip, a glide in your stride and come on to the mother ship , the learning never ends

Me and a couple buddies floated the piney monday. We did 8 miles and had very poor results. Three smallies and 1 LM.

But hey, you can't beat ten bucks for a shuttle! We also used boiling springs

Floated Slabtown to Ross over Sat & Sun. We were disappointed with our catch (approx 40 smb combined on Sat for 2 people, way less than that on the shorter float Sunday) but after seeing the posts above, maybe we should consider ourselves lucky. Only caught one fish over 16 inches.

And I only saw beds on one little 10 yard stretch of the entire 2-day float. There was nothing on them, but there were fry in the area. The beds were big enough that I assumed that they were bass beds. This confused me, as i figured that even if bass were done with the spawn, the abandoned beds would be visible everywhere.

Has nothing to do with Gavin and his post Seth.

My mistake. When I read Boiling Spring, I was thinking he was staying at the Gasconade campground, which is in the stretch of water I mentioned. I wasn't even aware that Boiling Spring had a location up the Piney. You learn something new everyday.
