i doubt if i would have either if i'd taken it off the boat to trailer it to the lake. it was sunny when i left but got nasty pretty quick. guess i just gotta learn some things the hard way.

I never leave my graphs on my boat when I am not in the boat. Each night after fishing I take them both off and take them in the house. I was gone for two weeks from the lake. When I got back I put them on the boat. When I got to the ramp 200 yards from the driveway, I turned it on the screen just had lines on it. I immediately tried turning it off. It stayed on the "shutting down mode" and would not turn off. I unhooked the power cord and put it away while I fished. When I got back to the house I put it in a bag of rice. It will be there for about 3 weeks before I get back. I'm afraid it's fried.

they know their stuff leaks, and has had condensation problems year after year,

yet they continue to manufacture it, they claim they can't stop the problem , they blame humidity and the weather.

now if the condensation problem lies in the gap/void between the display and the lens, then why not change the design so there's no void/gap??

I had to file a case with BBB against Humminbird about 10yrs ago for moisture problems that could not be resolved.

Humminbird tried telling me a fogged up screen on a brand new unit was normal, and if I just waited a few hours the "fog" would/might go away.. or I could send it in for repairs $$$, or I could "upgrade" $$$$

well, after about 2 months of mailing electronics back and forth the 5th replacement unit failed and I made the call to BBB I've had Humminbird units for 38 years and never had this issue. I've got three on my boat now. As for what they will do is charge you a nominal fee (50 or 60ish) and mail you a new or rebuilt unit. Upgrade will run you more than 10x that I suspect.

BBB made them give my $500 back, and I got a phone call from headquarters in Eufala , boy was she unhappy

Sooooo the site posted you under Fish24/7's username? If so that is very strange.

Water and electronics never works out with positive results. So do you all when it starts to rain take your depth finders off and put them in the dry?? I have lowrance HDS units and 2 of them are flush mounts and the HDS10 is on a ram mount and the only time it is removed is when I park the boat in a public parking lot. Never had a water problem with any of them. My son had a HDS5 that did leak in a rain storm on Stockton lakes sent it to lowrance and they sent him a Refurbished unit which has worked perfect. All it cost him was postage to send the unit in. Of course you have to contact them prior to sending the unit in for repair.

Mine get rained on all the time. Especially this year. When I tow I pull them though. I don't want road grime, rocks, or any more sun or rain exposure than I have to give them. It's just my routine to take extra care of them. Theft if I stop is another valid reason. So if I sell my stuff to upgrade you all know it's been taken care of whether it's overkill or not.

I never tow with my rods on the deck either. Same reasons. No different than storing or covering your boat when you get home.

Sound advice.
