5bites Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 I would love to see a state wide 17in minimum on all bass. Think of the quality fishing we would have! Do you think we would even though hardly anyone keeps bass?
waterpossum Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 Just wondering...do you guys think a slot limit on Bass at Stockton would improve the population of sizable fish? If it did, I would be all for it. We would all love the prospect of catching 3 to 5 lb fish commonly, rather than an exception. I'm not against keeping Bass, but would love to see a sustainable population of quality fish for everyone to enjoy. I'm not sure if a Florida strain/Northern bass stocking is a viable option for this lake. It's hard to duplicate the success other more southern lakes have been able to do, but progress has been made with this cross. Even though Stockton is a relatively clean fertile lake, it lacks some of the qualities that a few area lakes offer in that respect (larger more fertile feeder arms, year round water temp and a threadfin forage base) to name a few. As a comparison the weights shown by Frysmallie of the May tournament on Stockton first, second, and third place would have been good for 31st,47th,and 51st at a recent tournament I fished at the same time on Grand. This is an unfair comparison, but I am just using this as an illustration about the natural conditions that a close area lake offers.
waterpossum Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 Just a completely unrelated question. is this blog operated out of a mountain time zone. My post shows a time of 7:18 when in fact I posted at 8:18??

5bites Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 But yea Grand is crazy on the bags is kicks out. Not just weight but the amount of them. Also it gets way more pressure than any lake around here even thought about. Table Rock, Stockton, etc, I don't think could handle that kind of pressure. Sorry that was a little off topic.

Lvn2Fish Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 The slot won't happen. I talked to the biologist at stockton this spring. He said that if there is such a thing as a lake having a "hay" day. Then this is it for big bass at stockton. I totally believe him.
Lvn2Fish Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 They are going to make the spots a 12 inch limit soon. He said that these spots take like 5 years to reach 15 inches. This help the largemouth size some also.
Sac River Jim Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 why are spots treated as trash fish or eaters by MDC or it seems that way to me, i talked to that biologist too and i for one didnt agree with him but what do i know i just like to fish. i know there isnt a big population of keeper size spots on stockton and the one i caught with bfl2short on fri night was the first keeper i'd caught in over a year but i'm old school, we used to catch football size spots on table rock quite regularly several years ago and i happen to admire the strain of bass alot. they are a beautiful fish and good fighters. When they school up after the spawn they will wear you out when they get to chasing shad. It's nice to catch a big bag to win a little money or to brag a little but I dont care if I catch 15 plus lb bags everytime i go out I fish because I love to be outdoors especially with friends and i feel like it gets me back to my roots and i'm carrying on a legacy passed on to me by my grandpa and my dad. I've said my peace and I'm already hooked up to the boat and headed to Greenfield to pick up a friend as soon as i top off my starting battery and we are going FISHING!!!!!!!!!! Dirtracer35 1
