Quillback Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Fished with fellow board member Muddy Water today. We launched at 0515 and were done at 1 PM. Had a little bit of a morning bite off a gravel point, but not as good as I was hoping for. Couple of swipes at top waters, but none of them as much as touched our lures. Started grinding it out after that, fishing inside coves, chunk rock banks and points. By about noon we had maybe 15 bass total. Best baits were jigs and creature on a wobble head. Also picked up a few on an Ol' Monster, Ned and spinner bait. About noon the sun finally came out, the wind picked up and we found a chunk rock bank, with a big old MDC brushpile lays here sign. Picked up 8 or 10 on that bank, all Ned fish. Don't know if it was because of the weather change or we finally stumbled upon some, but we had some decent fishing there for a bit. Of course this bite started about an hour before it was time to go. We ended up with a couple of dozen bass, couple of good 17-18" smallies, a Mean that was just a bit shorter than the smalls (which qualified us for the Babler slam), one 16" spot and several LM's that were on that keeper borderline. Water is murky, kind of a greenish brown, can see bottom in about 3-4 FOW. Temp 72-73. Muddy Water and Champ188 2
dtrs5kprs Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 The TW was off around Kimberling today, not even a lot of chasing fish. Ned was working, to the exclusion of anything else. Temps were a little cooler. Will get a full report up in a bit. Just don't think that the TW is going to rock and roll with this water color. Sad face.
Ham Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 I had many square miles of very clear water and it did not help my topwater bite at all. I wouldn't have minded a little stain in the water, Champ188 1 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish

I did talk to a gentleman who fishes Eagle Rock to Big M quite a bit at the ramp as we were leaving. He has caught some on a spook in deep water over trees. But that seems to be the exception. Just not seeing any widespread top water activity like you would expect to see this time of year. I bet you're right about the water color.
Champ188 Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 That topwater bite from the deep trees takes extreme commitment. Isolated trees work best most of the time, and I have literally run 2-3 miles from one tree to another only to make a few casts, fire up the big motor and be off again to the next. It does not make for partner-friendly fishing. I save it for either a solo outing or a derby. On another note, kudos to you and Muddy Water for getting up a trip together. I had some good times on the water last year by making impromtu trips with OA members, yourself included. There are some great folks on this forum and I can't think of a better place to get to know them than in a boat. Ham, Muddy Water and dtrs5kprs 3
Muddy Water Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 I would like to thank Quillback again for inviting me along; I've had heart issues since last December and haven't been allowed (Wife) to fish as much as I would like too. He is a good man! Thanks again Quill for the invite and all the tips for catching fish on TR, I enjoyed every minute of it! dtrs5kprs, Champ188 and jordan21 3

Temp 72-73. good day , but may have left just as things were getting better Worldwide Solunar Tables Major time for Big M on the 2nd was 1:21 - 3:21pm . the majority of anglers I know don't even use these calendars. I'm a firm believer in most of them.
Quillback Posted June 3, 2015 Author Posted June 3, 2015 Yeah 24, the fish did seem to start biting better in the afternoon, but I'm only good for about 7-8 hours of fishing at the most. Throw in an hour to the lake, and an hour back and it all adds up to a full day. I'm not much of a believer in solunar tables, spent some time in the past comparing bites in the day to the tables and have never seen much correlation. I'm inclined to believe that the breeze picking up was what got them going. But, I could be wrong. Muddy Water 1
merc1997 Bo Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 not too bad of a trip for 6 hours. i've certainly had many worse trips than that. pretty good job. bo
