dtrs5kprs Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Awesome! Would love to see some recent pics and story's from there. Absolutely. Hard to believe it is a total dead sea, but it has happened elsewhere. No need to stock bass you know...
mhall02 Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 highly paid? Lost me on that one....bachelors level biology degree = 15$/hr Id say if they were in it for the money they would have picked something besides science. $15 an hour, I would say that is pretty close starting salary. Last time I worked for MDC it was as a Lab Tech with a BS in Fisheries and Wildlife from Mizzou. Yep I was making minumum wage. Tried that for a few years and moved on to much better paying, less interesting jobs. Gotta pay the bills, feed the babies and pay for the gas to go fishing, right? Anywho, at that time if I had 'identified' as a minority woman may have got my foot in the door but that is whole nother story that isn't too PC so I will stop.
*T* Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 Hey wrench, in your opinion why did MT go sour. Never fished MT in the early years but did fish it in the last 15.Have caught some nice limits of crappie. Yeah, but the word is out that you are a pro crappie guy and can catch 'em in a rain mud puddle. "Water is the driving force of all Nature."Â -Leonardo da Vinci
Seth Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 The few times I've crappie fished Mark Twain, it was lots of fish and very few nice ones while trolling Bandit 300's all day long. I want to say the last time I went, we caught 60-70 fish and only had 10 or 11 over 9" long. It was ridiculous!. Put me on LoZ and I can catch a good mess of decent sized fish. That was a few years ago though so maybe the average size has improved since then? It sure was nice being able to fish on a summer day and not get beat to death by monster cruiser wakes. It's very nice up there.
SmallyWally Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 As the Corps man said....."This is a flood control lake." After the floods of 93 and 95 the lake lost almost all its great cover. Good fishing DIED. My dad retired there just because it was some kinda lake back in the early 90's. Big walleye Big crappie etc etc etc. My dad goes out occasionally now maybe 5-10 times a year and he lives 15 minutes from a put in. He spends more time @ Stockton which is 5 hours away. The fishing and the lake was something to see before the floods and now it looks like a big mud hole most of the year. Almost makes me cry thinking about it. I would not waste my time if I lived further than 30 minutes from there. I love to fish and when I visit my dad I don't even think about going on the lake anymore. Kindness is the language the blind can see and the deaf can hear.-- Mark Twain
