abkeenan Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 I see you have warped your innocent young impressionable minded daughter to be as Cameron Crazy as you. Poor thing. At least you have put your foot down with your son wearing any kind of Jayhawk gear in the Ranger. So your parenting isn't all that bad all things considered I guess. Nice report though Dave.
bjovan Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 I was down, Sunday mon and till noon on Tuesday. Ran up the James on Sunday to piney it a couple points headed up. Figured the water would have enough color to smash them in the bushes on a flipping bait, buzzer or a blade(had some wind) I could catch some but not the beat down I had geared myself up for (need to manage expectations a little better) caught 12 or so with 3 keeps. Then I would bounce back and fourth from the bushes to 15-20 feet with a FB jig and shakey head (alway kept thinking I should be doing something else, not good for me) I hit some flat points heading back down to the KC area and hit one point with some chasers and had some fun caught 5 real quick Kentuckies and largemouth plus a white. So ended the day with 20 had 6 keeps. Monday I was out by 5:45 for a couple hours stayed in fisher then I had to work in Springfield caught 5 on top and missed a couple more blow ups, was running back to harpers valley at 8:30 and got a nice view of a 4lb jaw chasing, he came all the way out of the water, awesome sight. Back on the lake in the afternoon 4:45 threw the Ned and head when the sun was up caught 7 more with 3 keepers biggest was a 3.5 large not sure how he didn't break me off it ran me down some cables but never went under lucky. Tried to fish for a top water bite in the eve but nada. Tuesday tried to force a top water and blade on them had 7 but figure I should have had more missed three great blow ups one was a 4 plus out of a deep tree, came up 10' from the boat would have love to catch him but that's the breaks. All in all a good trip but really was hoping to smash them as always. It's always fun to try to learn the lake. Till next time Champ188 1
dtrs5kprs Posted June 4, 2015 Author Posted June 4, 2015 You have more trouble with braid than flouro on a spinning reel? Absolutely. Tons of knots and loops, even with conditioner and operating it just as I would fluoro. I have maybe one twist issue with fluoro in a two week span of fishing every day.

mjk86 Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 I believe what you are telling us, but I don't understand how that can be. what he said....ive had the same braid on my spinning gear for a few years now, it doesnt even need to be changed.. Its 100% without issue for me. I think guys use too small of spinning reels in general. In my opinion there is no use for a spinning reel smaller than a size 30. Ultralight spinning reels coil line up like a phone cord. I do run 4lb mono on my crappie rods which are 6ft 6inch light power silverhawks...but even those I pair with a size 30 supreme. With the mono i only put a little bit of line on at a time and re spool once a week, after that it goes straight to crap.
Members alltelracer Posted June 4, 2015 Members Posted June 4, 2015 I'm with Ham. I use 8lb Nano with 8 or 10 fluro leader. I think Ham's leader is lighter.
Ham Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 I use 6,8,10 lb leader depending on strength of Nano and lure I am using. I use 10 lb when throwing full size tube and stuff like that. 6 lb for trout always. 6 and 8 on Ned. I know I lose more Ned's on 6 and I haven't noticed a difference in number of bites when throwing 8 lb. I bought some of the Chartreuse Nano. It's lots better on cloudy days and I like it on sunny days too. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish

Running 3000 daiwas with big spools is why I have few issues with fluoro. Not really an option on a little 6' UL though. Even with the big reels I've had trouble with braid. Daughter had the same type of knot today, on a 40 size BPS reel that handles mono and fluoro just fine. Had put some braid on it to play with. Still hate it. Ham and mjk86 2
