Casual day today for us. Started around 7 with my daughter, finished a touch after noon. Lake is down, temps are up, clarity is improving.

Started on or around brushpiles on flats in about 15-20'. Caught some decent blacks and brown fish there. Also had a nice spot on some chasers roaming the flats.

For kicks we picked up the UL sticks and took the Ned out to some main lake places with bigger rock. Good color line there from the wakes pounding in. Picked up 3 more keepers, mixed in with some decent shorts, and a ton of little smallmouth. Like a number ending in -illion, with a prefix only Obama could comprehend.

Ended up with seven keepers, and just had a truly relaxing day. All on some version of finesse, including the new Crusteaz bait. Tiny little thing, but great action.

My kids are pretty used to catching fish, but even Em was thrown into gibbering goofy mode by the sheer numbers of fish. At one point we kept count of fish we intentionally did not swing on, both ended up over 6 bites on a single cast, at the same time. If you have kids, especially little ones, get them out early before the big boats are going, and get them on some of these fish.

This lake is just becoming a crazy smallmouth factory.

Good stuff Dave. I fished the KC area some last weekend and can confirm the shear numbers caught of the 6 to 12" smallies is enormous. Granted it will be a quiet a few years before these fish are keepers, but the future for the small mouth in the Rock is looking good.

Tim the great thing is it has been going like this now for several years. There are places all over that are just like nurseries for those little brownies. And they feed like hamsters. Caught one yesterday that had a craw down in its crushers, a small shad sticking out tail first, and still ate the Ned.

If they keep eating like that they may be 15" before we know it. Keep relaxing and catching with the kids. I commend you for the love of fishing you have instilled in them. Special times.
