PigSooner Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 A buddy and I are heading to the river tomorrow with our kayaks to try to find some smallmouth. Couldn't say no to a air conditioned camper, so we are staying at Buffalo Point, but we are open to fishing any good stretches. Any advice on areas that should be productive right now? I'll have the usual tubes, craws, flukes, spinners and top waters, but are there Any baits / colors I shouldn't be without? I'll have both fly and casting gear. I also plan on throwing a Ned quite a bit. Look forward to a great time, and I will post a report once we get back. Terrierman 1
PigSooner Posted June 10, 2015 Author Posted June 10, 2015 Had a great trip. Fishing was ok, but really enjoyed the river. Floated Buffalo point to Rush Sunday only saw 2 groups of people. Water was stained and flowing well. Only caught 1/2 dozed smallmouth, with a nice 18"er. Fished sexy dawg jr and "the rig" Monday floated Maumee North to Buffalo Point. Water was still stained but flow was slower. This part of the river was much more crowded. Not much time passed between floaters. Had the best luck fishing deep holes with Ned at the end of a long riffles. Caught 6 in 15 minutes in one hole, the nicest was about 15". Caught 10 and one goggle eye. grizwilson, Terrierman and jtram 3
jtram Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Nice trip, the wife and I are going as soon as we get a chance on the lower stretch. Terrierman 1

I wonder how Clabber compares to Mary Decker.... We need to make this happen. When the water goes back down a little after the rain this week. Maybe one of our local spies could help there. grizwilson and Ham 2

grizwilson Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Lets stop talking about it and do it. We will need to let tropical storm bill run its course, but the ENTIRE river is floatable which is very odd for this time of year. Letsgototheriver and I did a little 10 mile on James Sunday with our sons, so we are primed. In lower water levels it requires some maneuvering to avoid the rocks, at higher water levels it can generate some impressive standing waves. I never found Mary Decker to be any kind of problem in a canoe. With Clabber, you are either in danger of banging rocks or taking on water.
