I got on the water at 630 am and fished from the bridge to point 21. Ned caught most of my fish but also picked up a few on shallow running crankbaits. My buddy and I caught about 20 bass, all spots and Browns. Funny thing is not a one of them were keepers. All were in the 6 to 10 inch range. I couldn't catch a keeper to save my life. Also caught multiple bluegill and sunfish that were huge. All in all a great trip. I can't complain. In the meantime I'm gonna try to figure out how to catch bigger fish!!

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger. Been a small fish year since early spring. The Oakley Big Bass derby had 600 entries and only one fish over 6 pounds. Even 4's and 5's have been hard to come by.

Glad you guys had plenty of action. Sometimes you just have to settle for enjoying frequent bites and getting your rod bent.

Champ has hit the nail on the head. Been a tuff year for bigins from time to time. So enjoy all the action and natures beauty.

I would never, ever, complain about catching small fish. Heck, some of them think they are 4-pounders the way they pull. There are trips when that kind of bite saves the day. And we release all of them anyway...................right? :dizzy: Oops!

I've been fishing the Wednesday nighter at the 39 bridge. Only one evening three weeks ago did I have a good jig bite where I've picked up multiple fish including keeps on the same bank. The rest of the time been one here one there and NO distinguishable pattern. Jig and night thumper spinner bait has been best for me but that isn't saying a whole lot.

Curious of winning weights have been and what it has taken to get a check on them Wednesday nighters?

I talked to a local of the area yesterday and he told me all big bass he heard of being caught lately have been fishing boat docks. Is this what I need to concentrate on next time?

If I wanted to only target big girls I would be flipping the white spoon in deep docks, probably in pockets off the White or lower James. Docks that have as much as 80' on the out ends. Other options would be slow rolling big swimbaits through trees on main channel swings, or going right into state brushpiles with a jig, worm, or the dreaded jig worm. Maybe big cranks in the same piles.
