So are you going to call it the Mitch rig?

I think you are sorta going to have to.

How about the "Ness" Rig?

I'll say one thing, it has become THE bait of dock owners all over around here. If you see a guy fishing off his dock there is a 90% chance that he is rigged with the Ned.

And if you even say "Hi, doing any good?", they will put on a seminar for you.

People are really excited about it, and there's nothing wrong with that at all, but it is kinda funny.

Yeah we had an encounter with a guy I didn't mention at TR on this last trip. Kind of a doofus out trolling in the back of Schooner Creek in a Boston Whaler looking boat.

As he trolled between me and the boat dock we were fishing (let that sink in...not between me and the point/bank/bluff, but between my boat and a dock as we fished it) he told us he'd tried everything even " Ned lines" but wasn't catching anything. You have to hear the up north accent in your head to fully appreciate the moment, and imagine me and my son staring at the spectacle of it. We'd already caught several nice keepers, and good shorts by that time of the morning, on you know what.

In April a guy idled past me and a friend as we were on the dock, said we really needed to be throwing that Ned rig, it was really working. Told him we might very well do just that, as deadpan as I could.

I have learned that Chief is likely a "closet Ned Head". Me thinks thou dost protest too much Chief. I have learned that 15 years ago a guy fishing from his dock with half a plastic worm threaded onto a crappie jig head was just a city guy who didn't know no better, and we laughed at them, but today he is a genius who might possibly decimate the bass populations if he doesn't mend his ways, and That most of us were happily fishing with one version or another for many years without knowing or caring that it didn't have a cool name. In reality all lures are simply tools, there are no magic lures, some work better for certain folks, some work better for others. As an example I could probably count on my fingers how many fish I have caught on a topwater bait in the last 20 years (outside of a black jitterbug on a creek), or even a large spinner bait, I simply don't like them, don't enjoy fishing with them, and thus don't use them. Goodness knows they have accounted for a lot of fish for other folks, just not me, doesn't make them the best or worst bait ever made, just not my "cup of tea" as it were.

Targeting specific sizes of fish is a great way to hang up a goose egg.

I agree there. That's why I don't target a specific size or species. Although I have days it doesn't seem to matter what I toss at them.

Actually, the numbers of shorts on the Ned are way overblown.

I don't necessarily disagree here.

And no, none of that is for the Chief's benefit, but somehow the Ned detractors stir up some of the most informational threads covering it. No doubt some folks have learned a thing or two from this one.

I not sure how many times by how many people it has to be said but, nobody is a Ned hater. They simply grow weary of the multiple daily Ned Threads. And actually, this thread was running really smooth until today.

Incorrect GrassHoppa.

I have from day 1 never hidden my use.

Now just where was I protesting it?

Ooooooh I doooon't know.

Just doesn't have the same ring to it.

Plus you don't want folks getting it confused whit that other "N" bait!

Yet continue to read and reply on them. Interesting behavior.

I am more or less indifferent to spoonbill snagging and sucker grabbing so I skip most of those threads.

Well there are a couple of hundred that I haven't.

It's like watching the WWE. It's all drama and glittery showmanship. But slightly entertaining.
