attachicon.gifbridge.jpgAs I indicated above I am just retired and not being familiar with this part of the lake I drove up that way today. The truck in the attached pic (driven by a 30 something young lady) was in a 30 minute standoff with another vehicle (driven by an elderly lady). Neither would backup. The elderly lady said she lived there so she did not have to yield. Eventually the younger lady backed up and rather than going forward across the bridge in the direction of her travel, she sped after the elderly lady. As she passed I was close enough to make eye contact. Hope we don't read about an elderly lady getting beat up. Remember us old folks screw up some times.

RPS - Thanks for the answers to my questions above and Yes Beaver campground is mostly flooded.

One more question - Can you get a boat under or around that railroad bridge?

Just to right of the bridge shown in the picture, the span stops although piling remains. Normally that end is out of water, but about the time you can't go under the span, you can carefully coast through the right side with a careful use of spotters.

Wondering what movies the bridge appeared in?

My wife absolutely loves that area and although we typically stay in Kimberling City we have made the run numerous times. Not so much "running" mind you, just enjoying a boat ride for a few hours. We're been as far up as one can go in a Ranger 520. Raised the outboard and used the trolling motor to follow the channel until we come upon an impassable area or gravel bar which obviously varies with the lake level. Coming back down on the 12th of September and she's already counting on making that trip. Already told her it's gonna be dependent on the lake level and if they're draining Beaver.

Movie Elizabethtown used the bridge. TV series The Blue and the Gray used the railroad span. This is an interesting link about the bridges: http://www.shilohmuseum.org/pdfs/exhibits/bridges.pdf

Wow. That's some great stuff! I absolutely love not so ancient history like that. Kinda makes me understand what my grandpa was talking about when he used to say, "Son, that's back when the men was men and the women was proud of it!" Thanks so much for sharing!
