ten_scoach Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 Quick question about Ned Line....... Is 8lb floro too heavy? I have settled on floro line......going to trying seaguar invizx. I've heard good things. Since it's so expensive (at least compared to what I am used to with mono), I'd like to get 8lb so I can also use it for a few other applications as well as the NED. I have heard many recommendations for 6 with Ned, what's the down side to 8? Thanks
MOBass Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 I fished 8# mono and did fine. I believe 6# would have fished a bit better. The microfill stuff looks interesting.

I can't pinpoint precisely why, but I've seen 8 fished in my boat by good fishermen, on my good Ned places, and 6 will whip them every time. Backed up when they change to 6 and get into fish. At a guess it has to do with the action of the bait, length of cast, or the fall rate. Could also just be a visibility thing. I use the 6# Invizx for the Ned, and also for grubs, small shakey heads (up to 3/16oz if clear), roadrunners, drop shot, etc. It is more versatile and tougher than folks expect. Have had a lot of fish tie it in a tree and swim out to eventually make the boat. magicwormman, huntest, Champ188 and 1 other 4
ten_scoach Posted July 2, 2015 Author Posted July 2, 2015 Thanks! I also do a lot of vertical crappie fishing in the winter and 6 works good for that too, so I guess I will fork out the dough!
dtrs5kprs Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 Cheapest way to buy it is on eBay. Usually about $65 for a 1000yd spool. Little cheaper if you buy the 3000yd spools, but those do not use the same level wind process as the smaller spools, and it seems like the line digs into itself on those bigger spools. Red Label is cheaper too, and works OK. Not quite as well, but OK.
*T* Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 Tackle Warehouse has 1,000 yd spools for big discount occasionally throughout the year. Watch for it. Think it may have been $45 for 1,000yd spool of 12# & 8#. Might have been late winter last time. "Water is the driving force of all Nature." -Leonardo da Vinci
Sore Thumbs Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 Be careful with large spools from tackle warehouse. Buddy of mine bought a large spool of flouro and said it was brittle.
*T* Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 Think that InvisX moves pretty quickly. What I received appears very fresh. "Water is the driving force of all Nature." -Leonardo da Vinci
Smallieguy87 Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 The few times i have used a Ned were on #8 and i caught fish....I don't throw the Ned every time i go out so i'm no expert.
