Old plug Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 I fish for them with rope lures for fun I have never ever seen a gator gar in Missouri. I wish I could fond something like that.
Ketchup Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 It was shot in Texas some years ago. It was posted locally in regards to the Bass Pro bow fishing event a few weeks back. trythisonemv 1 TinBoats BassClub. An aluminum only bass club. If interested in info send me a PM.
cheesemaster Posted July 9, 2015 Author Posted July 9, 2015 Ketchup - Thank you!! That makes the most sense. I could not believe that it was from Pomme. I knew someone on here would have the answer!!! trythisonemv and Ketchup 2
trythisonemv Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Sorry it is in southeast MO I was mistaken. But wouldn't surprise me if one ended up there
MOPanfisher Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Well in order to make it here from SEMO it would have a heck of a journey, through some dams even.
trythisonemv Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 I meant some person bringing them there so they could bow hunt. Like people do with feral hogs
Al Agnew Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 I just read the study MDC did for their reintroduction efforts. According to it, there was an alligator gar taken in the Osage River below Bagnell Dam quite a few years ago, but other than that, all reports of them were from the Mississippi River and the rivers running into the Bootheel, including Current, Black, St. Francis, and Little rivers. Two were found in the Capaha Park Lagoon in Cape Girardeau when it was drained in 1962. The most recent ones taken in MO were shot by bowfishers in the Diversion Channel just south of Cape Girardeau in 2000 and 2007. The one known to have been taken from the St. Francis was near Greenville in 1954, which was right around the time Wappapello Reservoir just downstream was completed and filled. The old timers I knew that fished Wappapello back in the late 1950s and early 1960s said that there were some in the reservoir then, but I fished it with my dad regularly from about 1962 on, and I can't remember ever seeing one. trythisonemv 1
LarrySTL Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 I saw one alive and seemingly well in the Ohio River a few miles upstream from Golconda IL about 25 years ago. For those who have not had the joy of becoming acquainted with Golconda, think "first pool upstream from Paducah" http://intervenehere.com
