Amery,

My wife is also a special needs teacher.  We assume you have contacted your local school district and are using the available I programs and resources? Help should be available through early childhood special education services. Our prayers are with you.  PM if we can help.

I tend to be a little bitter, a little pessimistic, sometimes even kinda mean. This is one of those cases where the outside world doesn't see the internal struggles. I have 3 1/2 year old identical twins that are both non verbal level 4 autistic. We have no way of communicating with them and we are constantly having to guess at what they need. They start whining/crying, we try to figure out what they are after, if we are wrong they often get frustrated and will either hit us, hit them selves, or(my least favorite) will literally bang their head on the ground. My life consists of therapies, children's hospital, and a never ending battle at home trying to keep the house clean and trying to get them to eat(they are so picky and so stubborn). I though by 3 1/2 I would have a couple fishing partners but instead I am unable to even get them to respond to their names. I don't know if we will ever talk, I don't think we will be anywhere close to being ready for kindergarten.

I just needed a chance to explain my situation and maybe make an excuse for some of my seemingly irrational posts. I'm trying. If anyone else has experience with autism I would love some feedback, maybe a success story or two.

Amery, hang in there! I pray for God to give you peace and understanding in your life and him to send you the right people to surround you for your support. I have my own diagnosis that gives me understanding into your frustration. Keep going forward one step at a time even when you feel you just can't do it any more. You can and there will eventualy be a breakthrough. You are in a marathon so you have to pace yourself like a distance runner. You also need personal support and help so seek it. You are not week for asking for help as we all need help at times. I'm a big guy that played football as a defensive tackle but I still need others help at times. We are humans and we need each other; its how we are made. You are in a highly stressful situation and you need support to deal with it all. It's not always stubbornness but repetitive behavior feels safe to them and change can feel scary or threatening to them because they don't understand the way we do. I have a Psychology degree and have helped with children with extreme disabilities. I was also diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. My doctors are still arguing over the exact diagnosis and it gets frustrating how it affects my body and my mind at times. Hang in there Amery as you not only can't do it all, you don't have to.
