Amery Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 What I don't understand is why they are so adimint about the fish being under sized but if they are using a throw net wouldn't the whole operation be illegal? It's like if they netted a legal limit, they're ok?
Members littlejasper Posted July 21, 2015 Members Posted July 21, 2015 Like to know if they were illegals or not. Names didn't sound like they were born in Tenn.
Sore Thumbs Posted July 21, 2015 Author Posted July 21, 2015 I don't think netting is legal anywhere for game fish. Glad someone called the Authorities. I've seen people keeping shorts at War Eagle Mill. These folks were Hispanic as well. I blame Game and Fish for not cracking down on this. If people would start getting fined for limit and no license violations this would stop. Daryk Campbell Sr 1
cheesemaster Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 It is great that someone reported it. I have been a weekend warrior for around 7 years, fishing Table rock, Stockton,Pomme almost every weekend and I have never been stopped or even talked to by the Game Warden. I am always ready but just hasn't happened.
MOPanfisher Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Don't know of netting gamefish is legal in TN or not. I would guess that unless they actually saw the individuals catch fish with the net they could only prosecute for over the limit and under length fish. As for folks receiving tickets for fishing without a license yes they are issued regularly, the local paper around the lakes list them regularly.

You would think the state would see issuing tickets as a revenue stream. Guess not.
MOPanfisher Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 MDC seems to treat enforcement as a necessary evil, which I agree with. In MO the fines go to the county schools in which the ticket was issued, the state doesn't get it.
Sam Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 If they had 71 bass and a crappie in one bucket, they were getting bait - probably for catfish juglines. I think that would be legal if they had licenses and were netting shad instead. From the names of those arrested, I'm guessing they never used to pay much attention to just what species of minnows they caught and used in Mexico. Maybe this will be a learning experience for them.
